Position Title: Seasonal Bartender
Position Summary: Bartenders prepare all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage orders taken in the bar area and as transmitted by Servers in accordance with standard mixed drink recipes, and operational guidelines. Bartenders collect payment, operate the cash register, clean up after guests leave, and often serve food to guests seated at the bar. Each Bartender must become thoroughly familiar with the procedural and technical details of The Lookup Rooftop, Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer (Black Tap) professional and accommodating service including: bar and menu items; promotions, events and specials; handling special requests; appearance standards; and effective guest interactions. This position is intended to provide service at both the Lookup Rooftop and Black Tap.
Essential Duties:
- Obtain and maintain any required certification necessary to serve alcohol or work in food and beverage establishments as required by local regulations.
- Efficiently and consistently fill all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage orders taken in the bar area and as transmitted by Servers in accordance with standard mixed drink recipes, and operational guidelines – occasionally adjusting drink mixes to accommodate guest’s special needs or requests.
- Check identification of guests in the bar area, to ensure they meet the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcohol and tobacco products.
- Ensure that the appropriate levels of beverage inventory, stemware, supplies, and other stock are in place behind the bars prior to beginning of each shift.
- Ensure the proper usage of equipment, tools and service equipment in bar area.
- Control and organize the inventories and stock of all bar materials and supplies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all bar and food menu items to assist guests in their selections, using informed, tantalizing descriptions and effective selling techniques.
- Maintain guest experience by communicating effectively with Servers, timely inquiry of their needs, removing food and drinks as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses, being alert to spills and general tidiness of bar and guest areas.
- Obtain bar and food revenues by totaling charges, final presentation of the correct bill, payment processing and delivery of accurate cash change, credit card and charge receipts.
- Consistently and sufficiently meet The Lookup Rooftop and Black Tap’s standards for dependable and enthusiastic service in a confident, well-spoken and succinct manner.
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and cooperation with co-workers, management, vendors and/or suppliers; including requisitioning and maintaining an inventory of liquor, mixes, and other bar supplies; acquiring taxi service for guests; communicating with valet service; and contacting security, police or outside emergency assistance when needed.
- Comply with all of Black Tap’s employment related policies and procedures.
- Gracefully manage expectations of multiple parties at the same time without sacrificing quality, attitude or negatively affecting any guest’s experience.
- Express and exchange ideas spoken and written with both co-workers and guests, including writing orders, requests, reservations, or instructions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of The Lookup Rooftop and Black Tap including ownership, history, locations, service and meal hours, frequent guest benefits and events.
- Be dressed in proper uniform and acceptable footwear, ready to begin at start of all scheduled shifts, and work until the end of scheduled shifts, unless authorized by management for approved shift or work schedule change.
- Regularly attend all staff meetings, training, informational and education sessions.
- Protect The Lookup Rooftop, Black Tap and guests by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcoholic beverage control policies.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred. College, culinary or bartending education beneficial.
- Two year of experience in rooftops, restaurants, club or lounge preferred.
- Basic Familiarity with computers, POS systems, calculators and touch screens.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Food Sanitation/Handling Certification (where required)
- Alcohol Awareness Training Certification (where required)
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate telephone, computers and other office tools and equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.
- Ability to apply basic math concepts of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Approachable and accessible; develops and maintains effective relationships with all departments and team members.
- Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; strong time management skills.

The team member is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
