Starting Range: $27.68- $30.29 per hour
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the supervision and general direction of the Associate Director of Operations, supervises in-house custodial, contract custodial, maintenance of custodial inventory and equipment, trash and recycling functions for facilities assigned. Ensures proper preparation and safe operation for events and functions in the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center, Viejas Arena and the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions

Supervises full time staff to address day-to-day custodial needs.

Oversees contract custodial services for events and special projects to ensure compliance with contract and that contractor's work meets or exceeds Associated Students (A.S.) health, safety and cleanliness standards.

Oversees contract for pest control services, trash and recycling services, and porta-potty (as needed) delivery and services

As part of overall security, actively participates in the safety and security of the buildings by securing entrances and addressing unidentified individuals in the facility and bringing them to the attention of the Administration Office.

Reports any damage or needed facility repairs to the Operations Department in a timely fashion.

Oversees the use and maintenance of custodial equipment including addressing storage, repairs and replacement as needed.

Supports the corporate-wide goal of operating as green and sustainable as possible by recycling, conserving energy and making recommendations and suggestions toward that effort. Reports to the supervisor instances where this effort is not being made.

Ensures assigned facilities are appropriately supervised and staffed by A.S. and/or contractor

Maintains appropriate inventories of custodial supplies and safety equipment including and not limited to paper supplies, cleaning supplies, first aid supplies and kits, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

In assigned facilities, coordinates A.S. recycling program including monitoring the compliance to the landfill reduction requirements. For arena, ensures trash/recycling contractor reports dates and weights of trash and recycling for mandated annual report.

Actively monitors the facility calendar for upcoming events to ensure proper preparation, scheduling of contract staff, adequate supplies, and scheduling special projects.

Makes recommendations to supervisor on potential programming changes, needs and ideas to enhance the use of the facilities

Oversees custodial budget
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Education:
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Degree from accredited college or university preferred
Experience:
-
Minimum of three years of demonstrated, successful experience in the supervision of custodial staff in the entertainment facility, higher education, commercial and/or hotel industry.

Minimum of three years of demonstrated, successful experience overseeing contract vendor staff preferred.
-
Minimum of one year hands on experience using, maintaining and training staff on specialized custodial equipment.
Licenses & Certifications Requirements:

SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a full-time position. Must be flexible and willing to work long and irregular hours and days including nights, weekends and holidays.

Work conditions may vary depending upon the location of work and/or events; work and/or events may occur indoors and outdoors, therefore requiring exposure to a variety of elements. While working in the office, lighting and temperature are adequate with the use of standard office equipment available. While working outdoors, the work environment may involve exposure to various elements including but not limited to: sun, heat/cold, dust, pollens and other environmental risks. Event work may include exposure to moderate to extreme noise, limited lighting in areas, exposure to moving mechanical parts and exposure to high, precarious locations. Exposure to artistic expression that may seem offensive to some (written/verbal foul language, creative clothing, etc.) may also occur.
This position may also call for occasional business-related driving. A valid California Drivers’ License and proof of automobile insurance is required.

Depending on meeting and event requirements, physical demands may require standing for long periods (up to two hours) and walking for extended lengths of time (up to one half mile), on various terrains, and may require work over head, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, kneeling, laying down, work up to 80 feet above ground, moving, working in confined spaces and carrying items up to 50 pounds (unassisted) and 75 pounds (with assistance), using ladders and high scissor lifts and the operation of equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts, or other light power driven equipment.
