JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller directs the preparation and distribution of internal and external financial statements and associated management reports for the Company and its subsidiaries in accordance with U.S. GAAP and in compliance with internal controls over financial reporting. Researches accounting, reporting, and disclosure topics as needed. Manages relationships and works with external auditors. Directs general and other accounting activities including fixed assets; lease, debt, and goods receipt/invoice receipt accounting. Works closely with the Finance Transformation team to optimize the use of Oracle Fusion functionality in support of the financial reporting and general accounting processes. Provides accounting support to internal customers. In addition to these responsibilities, incumbent will lead and/or contribute to other projects and will provide secondary leadership to the Payroll and Inventory Accounting departments. Directly leads and manages a staff of four.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the month end close process and produce monthly internal consolidated financial statements, quarterly unaudited external financial statements, and annual audited external financial statements for the Company (and subsidiaries as appropriate) in accordance with U.S. GAAP and in compliance with internal controls over financial reporting.
- Direct annual shareholders report production.
- Main contact with the external auditors to facilitate quarterly reviews and annual audit.
- Manage benefit plan accounting and produce annual audited financial statements for employee benefit plans.
- Prepare financial sections of annual debt offering memorandum.
- Research accounting, reporting, and disclosure issues, interpret and analyze impact, and apply as appropriate. Issue accounting memoranda for new policies and major transactions.
- Direct general accounting activities for monthly and year-end accounting close processes. Manage Fixed Asset and lease accounting.
- Review, maintain, and improve relevant key processes including use of Oracle and other tools. Continuously improve monthly close and other financial reporting processes by reducing manual efforts, automating source reports, and developing more streamlined processes. Maintain and update applicable process flow and internal controls documentation. Establish and maintain appropriate accounting and financial reporting policies including account reconciliations.
- Oversee and enhance the use of Oracle ARCS for account reconciliations and Oracle FCCS & EPRCS for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting activities
- Lead and develop staff and provide accounting leadership especially to FP&A, AP, AR, Treasury, Payroll. Display passion for mentoring employees and promoting career development of staff.
- In support of the Controller provide backup leadership/review for Payroll and Inventory Accounting.
- Lead and/or contribute to other projects self-initiated or assigned by others.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proven leadership of Financial Reporting. Closes financial books accurately and efficiently. Evaluates and analyzes financial statements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a broad set of accounting principles and techniques.
- Change Management- Ability to help people and teams with the transition or transformation of a function’s goals, processes, tools or technologies.
- Strategic problem solving and process mapping skills necessary to lead a process improvement project and visually describe the process.
- Advanced data skills including data quality and manipulation, interpretation, visualization and storytelling. Ensures consistency of information across multiple systems and platforms.
- Keeps pace with changing accounting regulations and standards and understands the impact of changes in accounting standards on finance systems and technology. Adheres to relevant compliance requirements for financial reporting (e.g., SOX).
- Interprets relevant laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
- Ensures strong internal control measures by establishing or upgrading control policies. Implements checks and balances to ensure accuracy of financial data across the organization.
- Guides business heads on the likely financial statement impacts of regulatory changes, specific transactions, projects, investments and organizational changes. Highlights potential risks to existing systems, internal controls and compliance as a result of anticipated changes. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Maintains proficiency in the use of IT applications. Identify technical issues within existing accounting processes and work with IT support on resolutions. Understands and applies cloud-based accounting software and technologies.
- Creates metrics that drive performance against strategic priorities. Analyzes and reports performance metrics to management.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficiency with Oracle Cloud Fusion, particularly ERP and EPM modules. Experience with other Oracle ERP systems or other cloud based ERP systems is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Accounting with CPA required
- 15+ years of accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably with public companies and SOX exposure. High caliber technical accounting research skills with recent application. Big 4 experience preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel. Strong aptitude for large ERP systems with integrated subledgers.
- Ability to deliver strong, clear and concise communications, both oral and written. Ability to interface with all levels of management and remain poised under stressful situations.
- Strong people leader with excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, legal documents and technical procedures and ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
