Pediatric Therapies, Inc. is a therapist owned, small company comprised of 30 therapists. The small business size allows us to maintain long-term friendships with the therapists on our team. In addition, through clear and open communication with administrators in the counties we serve, longstanding contracts are maintained (10-30+ years). Within the counties we serve, our service is valued and appreciated by administrators and staff. Because of the continuity of service over many years, we develop lasting, rewarding team and student relationships. Currently, we provide therapy service to 12 school districts surrounding Richmond, VA.
Employment Terms:
Pediatric Therapies, Inc. is seeking a part-time 2 days per week (8 hours total per day including the paid drive time) occupational therapist to provide school-based occupational therapy services 2 days per week to students ranging from 3 to 21 years of age. The occupational therapist will work alongside another OTR to provide mentoring as needed.

Pediatric Therapies, Inc. is a therapist owned company, providing school psychology, speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy services to students within the public school system setting in the Southside Region of VA. The therapists employed by Pediatric Therapies, Inc. are part of the educational team within a school district. The members of our team have school-based experience and, working alongside special educators and administrators, use their specific expertise to address student needs. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, educationally relevant therapy services to support student independence and success within the school environment.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree; graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy, plus the required clinical internship for professional registration
- Satisfactory completion of Certification Examination of National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists
- Hold an Occupational Therapy License for the State of Virginia
- 1 year of clinical experience as an occupational therapist, preferably in school system or other pediatric practice setting
- Board Certification in Pediatrics and SIPT Certification is a plus
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
Essential Duties:
- The Occupational Therapist (OT) will lead the process in development, implementation, and coordination of the occupational therapy program.
- Screening, consultation, evaluation, educational program and transition planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning is provided for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities or participate in necessary or desired occupations.
- Professional judgment and clinical knowledge are used to develop individualized programming based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, student role, interaction skills, process skills, play, community integration/work, and graphic communication.
- A strong emphasis is placed on IDEA guidelines and appropriate educational therapy is provided for optimal function within the student’s least restrictive environment.
- Occupational therapist regularly collaborates with other disciplines and services at departmental and system levels. Staff and parent consult and training are provided as needed.
- Occupational therapist is expected to independently review outcomes and modify intervention programs. The OT is expected to take an active role in ensuring all occupational therapy services are delivered in accordance to each student’s IEP-mandated services and utilizing current evidence-based and ethical practices.
- Clinical reasoning and professional judgment are essential to ensuring the safety of students and protecting liability of the school system and the therapist.
Specific Responsibilities:
Identification, Assessment, and Program Development
- Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
- Evaluates the student’s ability and formulates the student’s occupational profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.Assessesfunction in underlying performance components including: neuromuscular status, sensation, sensorimotor, in-hand manipulation skills, and mental functions/process.
- Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention.
- Develops occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
Service Delivery
- Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
- Consults with the school-based team to achieve student outcomes.
- Adapts and modifies the environment including assistive technology and training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible.
- Educates student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation as well as safety and health maintenance.
- Collect and summarize ongoing data for reporting students’ progress.Prepare quarterly and interim progress reports on OT-supported IEP goals.Provide occupational therapy treatment updates to instructional staff and clinicians informally or formally through team meetings in order to ensure effectiveness of a student's therapeutic programs.Provide feedback to instructors implementing therapeutic programs
- Document occupational therapy service to ensure accountability of service provision and to meet standards for reimbursement of services.
