Seamlessly handle both front of house (reception/check-in/check-out) and back of house (MA duties) as needed. Ability to transition between front and back of house depending on the needs of the office during any particular moment (i.e. a co-worker is out sick for a couple weeks and their office functions need to be temporarily fulfilled, or due to a low patient census which warrants less staffing).
When the patient census is low, there may only be one staff member assisting the provider, and that staff member is required to be a medical assistant who will also serve as a hybrid front desk agent who is responsible for performing receptionist and medical assistant duties simultaneously due to low patient census.
When the patient census becomes high, more staffing will be needed, requiring a medical assistant to primarily cover front of house / reception, while the other medical assistant is asked to primarily cover back of house / MA duties.
When one MA goes on break, the other MA will cover their co-worker’s front of house / reception or back of house / MA duties until they return from their 30 minute lunch break.
The compartmentalization of roles during the pandemic can cause a clinic to suffer.
If an employee is only trained to be a receptionist, and their co-worker who is a medical assistant is out sick for two weeks due to a prolonged COVID-19 infection, then the work-flow is severely impacted. If a medical assistant is never trained with front of house / reception / check-in / check-out duties, then the work-flow of the clinic can be impacted if the front desk employee is out sick.
During this pandemic, adaptation is key to the sustainability of the clinic and consistency of high quality patient care no matter what curveballs are thrown our way.
For this reason, all medical assistants are required to be cross trained with all front desk duties in order to seamlessly transition between the major clinic functions depending on the clinic’s needs, high or low patient census volume, and whether co-workers are out sick for prolonged periods.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
