EmPower Solar seeks an experienced, personable, motivated and organized individual to perform duties as a Solar Permit Expeditor to support and grow the company.

POSITION SUMMARY

If you're looking to get into the renewable energy business but have limited experience and do not know where to begin - this is the position for you!

EmPower Solar is a fast-growing solar energy design and contracting company focusing on Long Island and the New York metropolitan area. EmPower seeks a personable, motivated and organized individual to perform permit submission and closeout responsibilities as a Solar Permit Expeditor. While supporting our permitting department, this individual shall be one of EmPower's primary representatives with all building departments across Long Island (LI)/New York City (NYC)/Westchester; submitting applications and obtaining building permits, and scheduling and attending building inspections which assists in closing out EmPower solar construction permits. Travel is necessary for this position.

TARGET OUTCOMES

This position is expected to:

Assist “front-end” in preparing and submitting all required documents for solar permit
Obtaining all necessary permits and approvals from local jurisdictions
Attend and present to Architectural Review Boards, when needed
Support “back-end” with permit closeouts for LI/NYC/Westchester
Coordinate, schedule and attend final building inspections throughout Long Island & Westchester County.
Contribute creatively towards the department's expansion

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

“Front-End” Process – Permit Submissions and Approvals
Prepping all required applications, documents, insurances etc. for LI/NYC/Westchester jurisdictions and submitting to building departments.
Following up with building departments to request updates and obtain building permits as soon as possible.
When needed, attend and present to jurisdiction’s Architectural Review Boards.
Create and maintain relationships with various building officials to ensure future success of permit issuance.
“Back-End” Process – Permit Closeouts
Long Island/NYC/Westchester. Develop and obtain a comprehensive set of local jurisdiction’s requirements in regard to solar final building inspections. Create and maintain relationships with various building officials and inspectors to ensure future success of permit closeouts.
Coordinating, scheduling, traveling to and attending all final building department inspections as necessary across Long Island and Westchester counties after completed solar installations. Be able to address any issues preventing the progression of the project as they arise.
Coordinating and scheduling all NYC final building inspections and uploading permitting documents for Solar Property Tax Abatement (PTA) sign offs to obtain Letters of Completion.
Updating all projects in Salesforce which enables successful tracking towards project completion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

Detailed oriented, ability to manage multiple projects under restrictive deadlines.
Demonstrated proficiency working with computers, including Salesforce, Microsoft Excel, Word and other Office programs.
Must be proactive with the ability to evaluate situations and present solutions.
Capable of working in a team environment as well as acting and operating confidently and independently.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Candidate will need to make phone calls to jurisdictions and clients as necessary and conduct conversations in a professional manner.
Demonstrated capability of problem solving; capable of taking an undefined problem and identifying solvable approaches.
Valid New York State driver’s license, reliable transportation.
Certified notary, if not already completed, completed within 6 months of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

No experience required, but experience/familiarity working in a construction environment preferred.
Prior experience working with building departments.
Bachelors/Associates degree or relevant work experience in the field.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications.
Optional: NYC DOB Class 1 Filing Representative License

HOURS, COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

Employee shall be compensated at a rate of $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Compensation will be increased with time in service and strong performance.

Note that EmPower offers a 401k plan and matches the first 4%. Benefits include medical, dental and vision programs. The typical work week is 40 hours, with the day starting by 9 AM.
