Position Summary:
- Plans, organizes, implements, and delivers an infant/toddler program based on the enrolled children’s individual and group’s educational, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs.
- Manages the classroom environment and works with the parents directly and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Provides direct supervision for the classroom team including all areas of personnel actions.
- Partners with the Lead Child Family Educator to manage center activities.
- Performs administrative functions in compliance with state regulations, Early Head Start performance standards, and standard operating procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- In accordance with Early Head Start/Head Start performance standards, ACF, licensing, NAEYC, Qualistar and organization guidelines, implements an infant/toddler or preschool program based on parent input and individual children’s intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs and strengths.
- Develops written plans, with classroom team, for daily activities based on children’s needs and interests which stimulate learning in all developmental areas (physical, social, emotional, and intellectual) for a class of children which may involve some children with disabilities.
- Organizes classroom materials and equipment to provide a safe, supportive age appropriate environment for children. Conduct an annual inventory of existing classroom materials and equipment and future needs.
- Schedules and facilitates team and classroom meetings, identification of team resource needs, ensuring planning and accurate completion of program projects, and in accordance with established deadlines tracking and monitoring team data, and adherence to quality standards. Audits files, portfolios, lesson plans, etc.
- Provides direct supervision for classroom team. Initiates personnel actions such as hiring, appraisals, and disciplinary measures. Supports and directs employee development by determining training and technical needs, coordinating training, accessing resources, analyzing and solving problems, staying abreast of current issues and theories within the field, and other related matters.
- Promotes positive employee relations through coaching, open two-way communication, reflective supervision, team-building and prompt resolution of employee issues. Communicates program’s objectives and promotes understanding and support of same.
- Along with others, provides new employee orientation for newly hired staff.
- Provides direct educational services to children and families as a contributing member of the classroom team.
- In collaboration with Child Family Educators, assists with supporting families in the Colorado Child Care Assistance program, conducts family conferences and home visits with each child’s family to develop rapport, advise parents of child’s progress, and gain parental input into the child’s education plan.
- Plans and participates in the preparation, setup, and clean up of meals and snacks. Eats the meal/snack together “family style” with the children.
- Prepares, submits, monitors and tracks internal and external reports/documents in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations/guidelines, and standard operating procedures which includes but is not limited to screenings, assessments, enrollment, attendance, etc.
- Demonstrates responsible professional behavior by participating effectively within and across teams, i.e. emails, effective communication using skilled dialogue, etc. Works effectively with the management team to ensure smooth program operations.
- Operational knowledge of performance standards, licensing and quality standards, and initiative design.
- Supervisory skills to include ability to impart knowledge, monitor, and coach to achieve organizational objectives and initiatives.
Experience & Experience:
Experience: 3+ years of experience with children 0-8 years of age
Minimum education: Bachelors Degree in ECE OR Bachelors Degree equivalent plus 36 ECE Credits required.
Certificates or licenses: Pediatric first aid, CPR and Universal Precautions certification (as required). Valid driver’s license with evidence of vehicle insurance.
Special professional and/or job-related requirements: Current PPD-TB and physical examination, background check, and compliance with other regulatory requirements as applicable.
Special training or experience: Knowledge of the culture, including food preferences, and conditions inherent within the surrounding community. Training and experience in teaching methods and classroom preparation. Experience in managing and relating to small children in groups and individually, and interacting with parents and others who represent various backgrounds. Experience in supervising, observing, assessing, and evaluating situational and behavioral circumstances. Training or experience in working as a functional member of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Conduct activities involving stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching on a frequent basis and substantial standing and walking , and moderate sitting.
- Sit on the floor or crouch at a child’s level. Lift a child weighing up to 50 pounds. Lift, carry, push, and/or pull a burden weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Grasp and manipulate office and art equipment and similar other tools and materials.
- Work with hands above shoulder height with a weight up to 5 pounds.
- Work with arms extended at shoulder height with a weight up to 20 pounds.
- Participate in routine conversation in person or via telephone, and distinguish telephone, radio/pager signals, alarms, and other auditory tones in a noisy environment.
- Distinguish small objects at near and far distances in conditions of bright or low light. Distinguish color and depth, and see objects in a wide field of vision.
- Respond to unanticipated situations involving activities of young children ranging in age from birth to three years of age.
Essential Skills & Abilities:
- Interpret/understand intermediate information received as well as prepares and transmits it. Involves ongoing interaction with other employees, the general public, and children and parents within the community. May involve interaction with persons whose first language is not English.
- Develop, read and understand intermediate written materials, and compose information/instruction in written form.
- Apply intermediate level analytical skills for assessment and evaluation responsibility.
- Apply intermediate level problem-solving skills essential in developing solutions for unanticipated issues and challenges.
- Remain calm and calm others in an emergency, stressful and/or confrontational situation.
- Identify conflict and take the steps necessary to resolve the issues or inform those who can.
- Work with other people taking into consideration, among the dynamics, their needs, their personal style, and the requirements of their jobs.
- Understand, and apply intermediate level organizational theories and practices essential in the development and implementation of policies, practices, programs, and employee communications.
Compensation
- $50,000-$55,000 annual salary
