Job Title: Director of Nursing, Children’s Program

Department: Children’s Services – Residential

Reports to: Vice President of Children’s Services

FSLA Status: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing (DON) is a pivotal leader within our collaborative and compassionate family-centered, trauma-informed therapeutic team. In this strategic role, the DON spearheads the coordination of medical care for our diverse population, ensuring their health and well-being are prioritized. The DON’s responsibilities encompass overseeing the development, implementation, and vigilant monitoring of policies, procedures, and protocols governing nursing and medical care at our special education residential school.

As an integral part of our therapeutic community, the DON directly supervises and guides RN Supervisors, LPNs, CNAs, and MAs who provide essential medical support to our students. Beyond daily operations, the DON’s role involves ongoing assessment of our students' medical status and proactive evaluation of nursing staff and processes to maintain a nurturing and safe environment. The DON’s expertise is instrumental in addressing any identified deficiencies and formulating strategic corrective actions.

The DON position entails optimal resource management to enhance the quality of medical services and foster the professional growth of our nursing staff. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Children's Services, the DON plays a crucial role in upholding our commitment to excellence while adhering to agency confidentiality policies.

Due to the dynamic nature of this position and the responsibilities it entails, the DON will maintain a flexible schedule that may exceed a traditional forty-hour work week. By embodying their nursing skills and leadership acumen, the DON will play a pivotal role in guiding our nursing team to deliver top-notch care and uphold the values of Crystal Springs, Inc.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Registered Nurse (RN) License: Must hold an active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Massachusetts, maintaining compliance with all state regulations and requirements.

Valid Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license for more than one year with a clean driving record, willing and able to drive Crystal Springs’ wheelchair and min-van safely and in accordance with the law, as travel between locations or off-campus activities may be required.

State-Required Certifications: Any additional certifications, licenses, or registrations necessary to practice as a Director of Nursing in a Massachusetts healthcare or educational setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Mobility: Stand, walk, and move about the facility, including homes, classrooms, offices, and medical areas, to oversee nursing staff and ensure smooth operations.

Manual Dexterity: Use hands and fingers to manipulate medical equipment, computer keyboards, and documents.

Visual Acuity: Read and review medical records, documents, and electronic systems with attention to detail.

Lifting: Lift and carry objects such as medical supplies, equipment, and educational materials, weighing up to 100 pounds with another employee or lifting equipment, as needed.

Physical Endurance: Remain active for extended periods, assisting in emergency situations, managing staff, responding to urgent medical needs, training staff to perform CPR, first aid, crisis intervention, and performing physical restraint, and walking and running alongside students when assisting them during transitions, outings, and field trips for periods up to and exceeding 30 minutes.

Bending and Reaching: Bend, stoop, and reach to access supplies and equipment, both at ground level and overhead.

Climbing: Ascend stairs and navigate the campus, including accessing different floors and buildings.

Sensory Acuity: Hear and comprehend conversations, alarms, and medical equipment alerts.

Extended Computer Use: Sit for extended periods while using a computer for administrative tasks, data entry, and communication.

Pool Use: Assist the children in our rehabilitation pool, which is 4 feet deep and at least 90 degrees air and water temperature, at least twice per week for periods of an hour at a time.

Pay: $116,064.00 - $122,304.00 per year
