New York State Certification as a Teaching Assistant required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in implementing educational activities and lesson plans
- Provide support and guidance to students with developmental disabilities, including those with autism
- Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Collaborate with the teacher to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Support students in their social and emotional development
- Assist with classroom management and behavior management strategies
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students as needed
- Help monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher
- Assist with curriculum development and modification to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Support literacy education through reading activities and language development exercises
Skills:
- Experience working with students, particularly those with developmental disabilities or autism
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to effectively collaborate with a team of educators and support staff
- Proficiency in math concepts relevant to the grade level being taught
- Ability to educate and engage students in meaningful learning experiences
- Familiarity with classroom management techniques and strategies
- Knowledge of curriculum development and modification for diverse learners
- Understanding of literacy education principles and strategies
