The City of Sturgeon is currently accepting applications for the Full-time Maintenance position. This position assists with on-going water line operations. Installs, maintains and repairs water & sewer pipelines, taps, valves, meter services, fire hydrants, and manholes, evacuate and shore trenches, backfill, cut, patch, repair and resurface streets. Semi-skilled maintenance operation pertaining to the construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city streets, storm drainage, facilities, and systems. Occasional operation of a variety of equipment. Previous Maintenance experience preferred. Candidate should have no serious criminal history. JOB TITLE: Maintenance Employee ~ (Licensed)
DEPARTMENT: Water & Sewer, Street & Road
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Superintendent
Responsibilities/Job Descriptions for the WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT
- Maintain a wastewater license. (Class D License)
- Attend 30 hrs of training every 3 years to renew license.
- Maintain a supply of parts and chemicals needed to repair and treat the system.
- Keep in stock, parts needed for repairs to the control panel.
- Maintain the main sewer lines and manholes.
- Inspect sewer connections.
- Maintain the grounds at the lift stations and lagoons.
- Spray around the main and second (2nd) cell as needed.
- Pump the water at the North lagoon as necessary to maintain storage. (Main and second cells should not be lowered below 2 feet.)
- Clean grease from lift stations as needed (usually every 2 or 3 months)
- The grass on the overland field needs to be removed twice a year
- Empty trash baskets at the lift stations at least once a week.
- Check the lift stations three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
- Take the quarterly samples (February, May, August & November). Results are sent to the D.N.R on a quarterly basis. If there is no discharge for that month as “No Discharge Report” has to be sent.
- Twice a week, test the Main and second Cell for: Temperature, P.H. Level and D.O.
- Maintain a file of these reports for a period of 5 years.

Responsibilities/Job Description for the WATER DEPARTMENT
- Maintain the required license (Class DS1 License)
- Attend 30 hrs of training every 3 years in order to maintain license
- Maintain and repair main water lines
- Maintain the Valve Location Book/Map
- Maintain and update the Water Line Map
- Install new water services
- Repair and/or replace meters as needed
- Meters are read monthly, on or around the 15th of each month
- Issue “Boil Orders’ as required by the state and maintain records of such
- Maintain a supply of parts needed for repairs for the
- Maintain equipment necessary to dig/grade and to complete testing
- Monthly samples of the water are to be taken once a month. Samples are sent to the DNR laboratory. There are also quarterly, semi-annually, bi-yearly and yearly samples that are required. Records of such reports shall be kept for a period of 5 years.

- Maintain a Class B CDL License (airbrakes not required)
- Maintain the following equipment; Backhoe, Dump Truck, pick-ups, tractors, & mowers.
- Perform the necessary street repairs (new asphalt, patching holes)
- Gravel the streets as needs, then blade.
- Snow removal as needed on city streets.
- Replace street signs, culverts as needed.
- Maintain a supply of the following: signs, equipment/machinery parts, and salt.
- Maintain the ditches along the streets as needed.
- Maintain the roads/drives at the Mt. Horeb and Sturgeon Cemeteries.
- Maintain the street right of ways as needed.
- Mow 5 acres lot north of Mt. Horeb and Old Cemetery.
