- Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public safety and order
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
- Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
- Conduct traffic stops and issue citations or warnings for traffic violations
- Investigate crimes, gather evidence, and interview witnesses
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, arrests, and investigations
- Testify in court as a witness when required

- High school diploma or equivalent (some departments may require college coursework or a degree)
- SCCJA Academy Certified or Completion of a police academy training program withing last 24 months
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and interacting with the public
- Ability to manage conflicts and diffuse tense situations
- Physical fitness and ability to meet department standards for strength, agility, and endurance
- Ability to work in a team environment and follow chain of command
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, protocols, and legal guidelines
