Summary
The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the organization’s mission, strategic objectives, and plan of work by providing a wide variety of professional support including marketing, publications and digital media.
Marketing
Responsible for developing and managing Chamber marketing plans in conjunction with appropriate committee chairs and/or department directors and with the approval of the President/CEO.
- Maintain the Chamber’s brand assets across all platforms.
- Develop and execute social media plans including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others, as appropriate.
- Further develop and maintain the Chamber’s website utilizing the content management system. Highlight member businesses, programs, events, and information relevant to the Wayne County business community. Write content including posts, overviews, and promotions.
- Oversee print and digital publications.
- Write and distribute press releases, e-newsletters, and blog posts.
- Sell advertising for digital and print publications.
- Maintain Chamber App.
- Under the direction of the Director of Events, provide marketing support, as needed, for Chamber events.
- Ensure flyers, brochures, letterhead/envelopes, decals, certificates, etc. are up to date and replenished.
- Serve as the primary staff photographer.
Committees
- Serve on the Marketing Taskforce and work together with the Chamber President/CEO to implement strategies.
- Attend monthly Main Street organization meetings in Fountain City, Cambridge City, and Hagerstown. Serve as a liaison between them and the Chamber. *These standing meetings are typically after 5 p.m. and would require flexibility in hours on those days.
Other Responsibilities
- Mentor interns, as needed, for marketing and communications projects.
- Cheerfully provide support for team members, as necessary. A small staff requires overlap and collaboration. While each has duties they oversee, there are many instances in which staff must assist in areas outside of their job descriptions.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Ability to perform duties above with little oversight.
- Ability to clearly communicate with Chamber members and leaders at all levels in their careers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
- Work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, and board members with a team-oriented approach.
- Pay close attention to detail.
- Excellent writing skills and an eye for graphic design are imperative.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of documents, records, reports, and conversations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop.
- Proficiency in social media platforms.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and the ability to optimize content for search engines.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, as required, for special events or occasional after-hours meetings.
- Demonstrate a strong desire to do quality work on time.
- Experience in photography is preferred.
- The selected candidate will have a good sense of “grit “as defined by Wikipedia: “perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular long-term goal.”
A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or another relevant major is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience and demonstrated capabilities are required.
