JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Immigration Attorney
Reports to: EVP/Chief Operating Officer/Chief Legal Officer and VP of ETC
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:*
The Immigration Attorney will meet with clients, counsel them on eligibility for relief under immigration laws, prepare applications for submission to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Immigration Court, and represent clients before the various agencies.

Responsibilities:*
- Conducts Immigration consultations and provides legal advice and referrals.
- Provides full representation before USCIS, local Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and where appropriate, before Federal Courts.
- Manages caseload and maintains client files in good order, including photocopying applications, letters, supporting documentation, and follow up work.
- Provides education and training to service organizations, government agencies, schools and other groups on immigration law and policy.
- Prepares and submits reports in a timely manner to Immigrant Assistance and Education Center supervisors and committees.
- Attends immigration law training sessions and conferences.
- Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited university
- Membership in good standing in the bar of New Jersey
- Bilingual: Proven Fluency in both English and preferably Spanish
- A commitment to social justice and community lawyering
- Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse client population as well as with community members.
Mandated Reporting:
As per New Jersey mandated reporting guidelines, any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or acts of abuse should immediately report this information to the State Central Registry (SCR). If the child is in immediate danger, call 911 as well as 1-877 NJ ABUSE (1-877-652-2873).”
