POSITION TITLE: Direct Care Counselor
Purpose: The Direct Care Counselor provides a safe, supportive, supervised and structured environment for children and adolescents which promotes fundamental life skills through spiritual enlightenment, emotional stability, physical well-being, self-esteem building and trauma informed care. Mentoring and building positive relationships with appropriate boundaries as the children and adolescents perform daily activities within the guidelines of the home is key. The Direct Care Counselor maintains structure and consistency within HWHF while operating a loving, caring, stable environment for clients.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise residents at all times;
- Maintain detailed, timely and accurate documentation;
- Interact directly with residents and build positive relationships with appropriate boundaries;
- Assist in planning and executing group, program and recreational activities;
- Has comprehension and knowledge of all regulatory requirements to include contract and minimum standards with implementation for 100% compliance;
- Positively reinforce children’s efforts and accomplishments;
- Immediately report any concerns or issues, including alleged abuse, that affect the milieu of the agency to supervisor or LCCA;
- Report precautions, restraints, schedule conflicts or any incidents or concerns that occur to Supervisor and LCCA immediately;
- Become familiar with child’s history which includes habits, interests, and special needs;
- Maintain upkeep and prevention of damage to property belonging to and on HWHF grounds;
- Ensure maintenance request form is filled out on all needed repairs and property damage;
- Ensure the safeguard of moneys belonging to HWHF or its clients;
- Serve meals to each resident according to menu or special needs;
- Maintain work environment free of recognized hazards;
- Keep facility clean and sanitized;
- Complete quarterly inventory of each resident’s items;
- Meet all Safety Standards
- Provide transportation for clients to and from appointments, school, visits and activities as needed;
- Complete a minimum of 50 hours of in-service training hours annually in child-care services;
- Ensure continuity of care for children through effective communication with incoming staff about each child’s activities and behavior during the previous shift and any verbal or written information or instructions given by other professionals; and
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must work a minimum of 45 hours per-week
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License
- Provide proof of Liability Insurance on personal vehicle upon demand
- Maintain strict confidentiality and trust
- Good organizational skills
- Good work ethic as well as Dependable and Flexible

Essential Physical Requirements:
The physical factors and working conditions required or expected while performing the essential functions of the job are described below:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, reach with hands and arms; kneel, crouch, crawl and walk, talk and hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally lift, carry, pull and push 25 lbs. unassisted
- Be able to perform CPR/First Aid effectively with training provided
- Prolonged standing or squatting
- Routine exposure to chemicals and other cleaning agents including clorox
- De-escalating verbally/physically aggressive residents
- Perform physical restraints of residents as a last resort
- Drive residents/staff to various locations
- Able to walk up and down a flight of stairs several times throughout a shift

Required Work Hours and Schedule:
- Flexible Availability is required
- Minimum of 45 hours per week

- Rate of pay commensurate with skills & experience
