Job Title: Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Community Outreach Specialist: State Team Lead
Position Reports To: SMP Director or Assistant Director
Nature & Scope of Position: The team lead provides guidance, instruction, direction, and leadership to the state’s Senior Medicare Patrol team in collaboration with the SMP Director and Assistant Director. This position supports the directors in the day-to-day workflow of the team, oversight of compliance to contract requirements, and participates in the evaluation and development of workflow processes and strategic direction. Position engaged in teaching Medicare beneficiaries, family and caregivers how to prevent, detect and report Medicare Fraud through community outreach, education sessions and one-on-one counseling.
Primary Qualifications
4-year college degree in business, humanities or other related field; Or
Two – five years' experience in community development activities and public speaking preferred.
Culturally connected with the local community. Must be able to use basic computer programs such as Word and Excel and be comfortable with the Internet communication and research. Must pass a background check. Must attend and complete all SMP Foundations training, conducted by SMP staff.
Moderate physical activity to include occasionally moving, lifting, or pulling up to 25 lbs. Normal manual dexterity and mental and visual attention
Must be able to work with confidential information. Must be able to maintain flexibility dependent upon business needs. Must be able to travel. Educational sessions with beneficiaries may require evening or weekend commitments. Overnight travel may be required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and meet with state Community Outreach Specialists (COS) monthly to review weekly update and qualitative report documentation, workplan, activities, time spent and time off requests to provide guidance and ensure effectiveness of team activities.
- Assist with the development of state specific educational materials, focusing on the state’s unique population and service needs.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assist in the implementation initiatives as requested by supervisor.
- Provide ongoing guidance to staff regarding outreach activities including, but not limited to canvassing trips, SMP sponsored events, appropriate and inappropriate outreach activities.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring and training of state Team Members, including COS and volunteers.
- Conduct presentations to Medicare beneficiaries, providers, stakeholders, and other interested groups or programs.
- Attend and plan health fairs, senior fairs, and other community events to raise awareness about the SMP program.
