The Position
The Meadows School is seeking a dynamic, creative, experienced 3rd Grade Teacher for the 2024-25 school year. The Meadows School educates approximately 950 students per year in grades preK-12. The 40-acre campus houses over 240,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities. Since the first graduating class in 1991, 100% of Meadows graduates have been accepted into four-year colleges and universities. Under the direct supervision of the Lower School Director to teach students in grades K-5 in academic, social, behavioral, and other related skill areas.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or higher degree with major in elementary education or a related field
- At least two years experience teaching Lower School
- Experience in independent schools preferred
Responsibilities
- Instruct students in the required Lower School curriculum, including reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, citizenship and art.
- Establish and maintain appropriate standards of student behavior, utilizing a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Provide accurate and timely assessments of students and maintain accurate and complete student records as required
- Create and maintain an engaging and supportive learning environment including extra help for new or struggling students
- Produce and present a class citizenship program each year
- Continually evaluate, revise, and/or update curriculum, course content and course materials and methods of instruction
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities
- Perform non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instruction development, student supervision, class parties
- Continually communicate with students and parents about academic and behavioral expectations and keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations
- Participate in staff development activities, in-services, and staff meetings as required or assigned
- Support The Meadows School and participate in school-wide student activities and social events
- Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
- Work cooperatively and effectively with fellow staff members to ensure consistency of The Meadows program
- Perform other duties assigned by Lower School Director
Qualities of a Successful Candidate
- A sound knowledge of childhood development and pedagogy
- Familiarity with growth mindset, deeper learning and design thinking
- Ability to teach creatively and engage a diverse group of learners
- Experience with Google classroom. Seesaw, and online remote learning
- Proficient with Google/Gmail, SmartBoards and related software
- Strong communication, interpersonal, technology and presentation skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
- Sense of humor and love of this age group
- Supportive, nurturing, warm personality
