The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) is seeking an experienced Grants & Support Specialist for the department’s infrastructure functions; primarily working in grants administration, but also public health accreditation, and continuous quality improvement. This position is vital to assuring the department maintains and improves public health essential services delivered to diverse communities across Nashville and Davidson County.
The primary functions of this position support the department’s achievement of obtaining discretionary grant funding which assists with reaccreditation (five-year cycle) and continuous quality improvement of processes.
Typical Duties:
- Seeks discretionary grant funding specific to departmental needs.
- Assists with grant writing and grant applications preparation and submission.
- Maintains a calendar for grants applications and grant awards.
- Coordinates grants training and scheduling.
- Collaborates with the MPHD finance director, contracts coordinator and finance manager to assure seamless and unduplicated processes.
- Updates grant manual.
- Provides training on MPHD grant processes.
- Coordinates and maintains training calendar to assure all managers have received the national grants management training.
- Serves as a Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) liaison.
- Assist the lead coordinator for the MPHD reaccreditation process.
- Develops and maintains a process to work with the Executive Leadership Team and other staff to identify, collect, record, prepare and upload the PHAB required reaccreditation documentation.
- Provides training on PHAB standards and provides individual coaching as needed.
- Reviews and approves all PHAB documentation.
- Maintains a repository for required accreditation documentation.
- Maintains contact and correspondence with PHAB officer.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited (4) four-year college or university and one (1) year of responsible, full-time employment in public administration, business administration, public health administration, public health, nursing, education, grant administration, or another appropriate field or,
- One (1) year of graduate study in public health administration, public administration, or health education may be substituted for one (1) year of experience or,
- A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of public health administration, public administration, public health sanitation, grant administration, or business administration, of which at least one (1) year within the past three (3) years must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
- Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
