Job Description: Central Service Technician II
Shift Availability:
- Day Shift (Full-Time): Monday to Friday, 7 AM - 3 PM, with weekend rotation, holidays, and flexible location requirements.
- Evening Shift (Part-Time): 3 PM - 11 PM, 3 shifts per week, with weekend rotation, holidays, and flexible location requirements.
Position Summary:
The Central Service Technician II, certified as either a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or a Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), is responsible for the meticulous management of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. This role encompasses inventory, decontamination, assembly, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution, and tracking. The technician operates independently, with minimal supervision, is qualified to train others, and serves as a resource for Central Processing customers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Adheres to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Demonstrates and articulates a clear understanding of position responsibilities.
- Applies knowledge of current department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Attends staff meetings or equivalents to stay informed on department/hospital issues.
- Completes and documents annual department/hospital competency requirements.
- Follows all WPH policies and procedures, including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and annual physical submission.
- Uses appropriate methods to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse, and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment. Operates and troubleshoots cleaning equipment, handles garbage, linen, and biohazardous material safely, and maintains safety standards.
- Ensures proper functioning and inspection of sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and instrument decontamination washers.
- Assembles, protects, wraps, containerizes, peel packages, and labels instruments accurately, inspecting for cleanliness and functionality.
- Handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments properly.
- Selects and applies appropriate sterilization methods, documenting and verifying sterilization loads and biological tests for efficacy.
- Retrieves, disburses, and tracks medical and surgical supplies and equipment efficiently.
- Operates and maintains equipment specific to Central Processing (e.g., steam sterilizers, Sterrad, OER-Pro, cart washers, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, heat sealers, and various testing devices).
- Manages processes for ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, delivering, and monitoring surgical supplies, communicating supply issues promptly.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area, completing assigned housekeeping duties.
- Acts as a resource for customers on Central Processing functions.
- Performs other related job duties as required, tracking progress and compliance with training, staff meetings, and in-service education.
- Distributes and restocks medical supplies, rotating stock appropriately.
- Transports patients to and from the Operating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area, including shelving.
- Applies knowledge of current infection control methods.
- Completes 10 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) annually, submitting documentation to the Manager and Human Resources as required by NYS Law.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), or qualification under the grandfathering clause.
- Preferred: Previous experience in Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processing.
- Preferred: Familiarity with medical technology.
- Grandfathering Clause: Individuals who have worked for a cumulative total of one year between January 2011 and January 2015 may be exempt from certification requirements.

Pay: $47,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
