We are seeking a Design Assistant to join our growing team. This is a highly creative position with significant interaction with the Design Department and exposure to clients. Our ideal candidate will have some design training and 1 to 3 years of experience working in residential remodeling or the design industry.
Primary duties involve assisting with project design projects and department management. You will be responsible for delivering material samples, data entry, submitting permit documents, assisting surveys, drawing revisions, and other tasks as needed. A Day in the Life of the Design Assistant:
- Assist Design Team with design development and project workflow management
- Assist Design Manager with department management tasks
- Respond to requests with exceptional client & internal service
- Help further develop selections process for clients
- Data entry and metric tracking
- Marketing our company to prospective future clients by representing the company in a professional and courteous manner in public
Detailed Responsibilities:
Preliminary Design
- Assist with site surveys and as-built floor plans
- Document existing building through photographs, measurements and notes
- Assist in preparing floor plans with imaginative and practical design solutions
- Review designs with third party for construction feasibility and cost implications before presenting preliminary drawings
·Design Development
- Perform revisions to drawings as requested
- At the request of architect or draftsperson, develop working drawings including electrical plans, elevations, and perspectives
- Assist with the development of specification documents
- Research materials and design ideas
- Order & deliver material samples to office, vendors, and clients as needed
- Visit job site when necessary to resolve design issues which cannot be worked out over the phone or at the office
- Assist with Design Meeting notes and recording on the office server
- Assist Estimator and Salesperson with project estimates
- Assist Purchasing Coordinator with ordering selections in advance of work
Construction
- Assist in the assembling and submission of permit and building applications to local municipalities
- Assist in assembling Production Hand-Off Package to Production Staff
- Assist in the completion of construction drawings
- Enter material & fixture selections into selections matrix
- Update standards and selection guidance documents
Continuing Education
- Keep up with design trends, building practices and technical applications including design software. Continuing education as necessary.
Marketing
- Assist writing of awards submissions
- Participate and help with the setup and takedown of marketing events (i.e. Tours, Home Shows) as necessary.
Weekly Duties
- Participate in weekly Design Department meetings
- Participate in project meetings if needed
- Assist in prepare conference rooms for meetings
- Complete weekly time sheet and turn in at end of each week to the Design Manager.
- Help manage conference room samples such as cabinet, counter, and knob displays. Research and update for new products and styles
- Answer telephone as necessary

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
