GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for American Farmers & Ranchers Mutual Insurance Company by working in partnership with the Board of Directors (BOD or Board). The Board and the CEO assure that the accomplishment of the mission, vison, and values provide stability for employees, agents, members, and policy holders.
The Board of Directors delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Chief Executive Officer, who has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The CEO provides direction to the Board of Directors as it carries out its governance functions.
ACCOUNTABLITIES:
1. Legal compliance
a) Assures the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
2. Mission, policy, and planning
a) Helps the Board determine AFR’s values, mission, vision, and short- and long-term goals.
b) Helps the Board monitor and evaluate AFR’s relevancy to the community, its effectiveness, and its results.
c) Keeps the Board fully informed on the condition of AFR and all of the important factors and influences.
d) Identifies problems and opportunities and addresses them.
e) Brings those who are appropriate to the Board and facilitates discussion and deliberation.
f) Informs the Board about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy-making.
g) Recommends policy positions.
3. Management and administration
a) Provides general oversight to all of AFR’s activities, manages the day-to-day operations, and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient organization.
b) Assures program quality and organization stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.
c) Assures a work environment that recruits, develops, motivates, retains and supports quality staff.
d) Recommends staffing and financing to the Board. In accordance with the Board action, recruits, negotiates professional contracts, and sees that appropriate salary structures are developed and maintained.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Board to develop a strategic plan to advance the company’s mission and objectives and to promote revenue, profitability, and growth as an organization.
- Review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
- Establish clear responsibilities and accountabilities for the management team with measuring benchmarks and periodic reviews.
- Work closely with management team on budgets, cost reduction, proper staffing, multiple pricing models, “what if scenarios”, cash flow, and other key metrics.
- Oversee company operations to insure production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
- Ensure compliance is maintained with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with company affiliates to ensure unity and cooperative spirit so that together all achieve success.

SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or its equivalent with a minimum requirement of 7 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Must have audit experience and understand advanced insurance concepts.
- Familiar with a variety of management concepts, practices, and procedures.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- First-rate interpersonal skills and the ability to provide supervision to others when needed.
- The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and balance competing priorities is key.
- Be willing to work after normal business hours when necessary.

Pay: $275,000.00 - $350,000.00 per year
