Overview:
As our Adult Services Assistant, you will earn $19.00 per hour. This part-time position requires you to work 15 hours per week, specifically on Mondays 9am-1pm, Thursdays 5pm-9pm, and alternating Fridays 9am-6pm/Saturdays 9am-5pm. Your responsibilities include creating a welcoming library experience for all visitors, covering service desk shifts, providing reader’s advisory and reference services, maintaining the collection, and adapting to new services and technologies.

What You’ll Do Every Day:

Provide excellent customer service to patrons in-person, via telephone, and/or online communication and assist with choosing materials appropriate for their stated needs
- Shelve returned items and assist with keeping the area neat and orderly
- Create and maintain displays, lists and other avenues to promote the collection, by collaborating with the department manager
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of popular materials including books and media, technologies, and trends
- Assist with selection and ordering of new materials, compiling lists of patron requests for purchase, checking bibliographies against catalog to verify library holdings, and preparing orders for review by the department manager
- Stay up-to-date with new media and library technology, participate in continuing education and technology training and observe safety rules and precautions
- Communicate in a courteous and considerate manner with patrons and staff
Qualifications:

High school diploma or relevant experience with the responsibilities of the role
- Customer service experience, particularly experience working at a service desk is desirable
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite G Suite, social media, e-reader technology, e-resource platforms including Overdrive, Hoopla, and Kanopy
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
