Thirsty Dice is a vibrant board game restaurant/cafe in Spring Garden / Fairmount section of Philadelphia, dedicated to providing an engaging and fun environment where guests can enjoy delicious food, great company, and an extensive collection of board games. Our mission is to create a welcoming community space that promotes the joy of gaming to people of all ages by encouraging people to unplug and reconnect with one another. We are looking for a GameTender -- a passionate Game Teacher and Community Manager-- to join our team and help us grow our community through outstanding guest interaction, innovative event management, and effective marketing.
Please Note: This position requires weekend availability. You will also need to support the shared success of the rest of the Front of House Service team. This is not a job where you get paid just to play games. This role is both challenging and rewarding. It requires someone who is willing to wear multiple hats and go the extra mile to ensure our guests have an exceptional experience. You'll be at the heart of our community, playing a key role in making our board game cafe a home away from home for our guests.
Responsibilities:
Community Management:
- Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, and enthusiastic community atmosphere for tabletop game fans, including TCG and RPG fans.
- Actively engage with community members both in-store and through online platforms, including Discord, responding to inquiries and moderating discussions to uphold a positive environment.
- Build and maintain relationships with game enthusiasts, influencers, local gaming clubs, and online communities to foster community growth.
Event Promotion and Production:
- Organize, promote, and execute a variety of in-store events such as weekly game nights, product launch events, tournaments, and workshops focused on TCG and RPG.
- Collaborate with suppliers, distributors, and community partners to secure event sponsorships, promotional items, and highlight new releases.
- Leverage social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and Discord to promote events, engage with the community, and showcase store offerings, driving participation and store traffic.
Guest Interaction:
- Teach and explain board game rules to guests with varying levels of gaming experience, ensuring a fun and engaging experience.
- Actively engage with guests to recommend games that suit their interests and skill levels, enhancing their visit and encouraging repeat business.
- Monitor gaming sessions to offer tips, resolve rule disputes, and maintain a positive gaming environment.
Marketing and Promotion:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create engaging social media content and marketing materials that reflect the cafe's brand and community events.
- Utilize social media platforms to interact with our audience, respond to inquiries, and promote our gaming culture and events.
- Collect and analyze feedback from events and general guest experiences to inform future marketing strategies and community engagement initiatives.
Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in organizing and promoting gaming events.
- Deep understanding and personal engagement with TCG and RPG, especially in games like Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Lorcana, and Pokémon.
- Retail, hospitality, or event management background is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a diverse gaming community.
- Proficiency in using social media and digital platforms, including Discord, for community engagement and event promotion.
- Excellent organizational abilities, with a knack for juggling multiple events and tasks.
- Independent and team-oriented work ethic, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and community building.Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan and execute events effectively.
- Digital literacy, particularly in social media management and content creation.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and entertain guests.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.89 - $17.35 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
