The Nair Lab studies the genetics of ocular diseases with a primary focus on glaucoma and retinal diseases. Glaucoma is a common neurodegenerative disease and a leading cause of irreversible blindness.
Under direct supervision and training, the research associate (SRA I/II) will work to identify genes, molecular mechanisms and cellular networks contributing to glaucoma. The lab employs a variety of multi-disciplinary approaches to dissect the role of complex disease associated genes at a mechanistic level. The lab has successfully combined the use of human genetics and mouse models to uncover critical genes contributing to glaucoma and related phenotypes.
The incumbent will engage in several technical aspects of genetic and molecular biology-based studies using human cell lines as well as other genetic mouse models to study human diseases including different forms of glaucoma and associated phenotypes. Oversee all aspects of management of a large number of cell lines such as primary lines, cancer cell lines and mouse colonies. Perform administrative tasks including ordering and managing lab supplies, and general lab organization. Assist research projects under the supervision of postdoctoral fellows.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
