The In-Home Parenting Coach provides support, guidance, and practical strategies to parents and families dealing with mental health challenges. This role involves visiting families in their homes, conducting assessments, developing individualized plans, and teaching effective parenting skills. Responsibilities:
Family Assessments:
- Implement Restorative Parenting techniques focusing on building strong parent-child connections, effective communication, positive discipline, and fostering emotional intelligence.
- Provide support and guidance to parents on self-care practices and strategies for managing stress.
- Facilitate discussions and activities centered around fostering interdependence and confidence in children.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for parents navigating the journey of parenthood.
- Manage all referrals and correspondences to CYF services, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
Parenting Plan Development: Create individualized parenting plans that include practical strategies and techniques to address specific challenges and promote healthy family interactions.
In-Home Coaching Sessions: Conduct in-home sessions with parents and families to provide guidance, support, and coaching. Teach effective parenting techniques and behavior management strategies.
Education and Resources: Provide parents with educational resources and information on child development, positive discipline, and mental health awareness.
Crisis Intervention: Respond to family crises and offer immediate support and guidance. Collaborate with other professionals as needed to ensure safety and well-being.
Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals: Coordinate with mental health clinicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to family support.
Goal Setting and Progress Monitoring: Work with parents to set achievable goals and track their progress over time. Adjust strategies and plans as needed to ensure success.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of coaching sessions, family progress, and outcomes. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in parenting, family coaching, and mental health. Participate in ongoing training and certification programs.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, or a related field.
Experience: Experience in family counseling, parenting coaching, or related fields, preferably with a focus on mental health. Experience in coaching, counseling, or parenting education, with a focus on Restorative Parenting methodologies preferred. Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and parenting challenges.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to build trust with families and work effectively in a home environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and motivate parents in person.
Attributes: Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach. Ability to handle sensitive family situations with professionalism and discretion. Empathetic and compassionate approach to working with families from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Requirements: Must conduct home visits. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for in-home visits. Background check clearance may be required. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred Skills: Certification or training in parenting education, social work, counseling, psychology, or related field. Experience working with Child, Youth, and Family services or related social services. Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices.
