We are seeking dedicated, hard-working, long-term employees to join our crew and do not have time to waste on turnover or apathy.
Are you looking to join a company that feels more like family? Genuine Sheds and Studios, a family owned and operated business based in Ojai, serves the communities of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and North LA counties. Unlike your typical construction company, we prioritize the well-being of both our employees and customers. We firmly believe that a happy team translates to happy clients. That's why we're seeking an Assistant Builder from or near Ventura, CA who may not have extensive experience but is eager to learn and committed to giving their best. We are passionate about work ethic and are dedicated to fostering a team of individuals who are not just seeking a job, but a fulfilling career path. Whether you're an experienced builder or someone with a keen interest in carpentry and construction, we encourage you to apply.
Tasks will include various construction aspects such as framing, roofing, siding, window/door installation, interior finishing, floor installation, cement pouring, and painting. Don't worry if you lack experience in any of these areas – we provide training for those who show up ready to work hard. At Genuine Sheds and Studios, reliability is key, and in return, you'll be welcomed into our small, close-knit business and taken care of as part of the family. Our projects vary in scope, but we strive to offer our team as close to full-time hours as possible while maintaining a healthy work-life balance with 4-day work weeks. Join us and become part of a team where your dedication is valued and rewarded.
You are right for this role if...
- You are known for your work ethic, and we REALLY mean this. We are absolutely not looking for someone who will not be dependable or is lazy. We invest in our team and truly expect them to show up for us, as we will always do for them.
- You have reliable transportation and are able to travel within a 50 mile radius of Ventura, CA for client projects.
- You are able to be left unsupervised because you’re going to do the job you’re supposed to do and not slack off. We don’t want to babysit out workers and instead want to have trust in our employees - with or without a manager on site, the job will be done and done right.
- You know your limitations and know when to ask for help instead of avoiding the task or doing it wrong.
- You’re alone on the job without a manager and are unsure of what to do, you’re going to pick up the phone. Great communication skills and being confident that asking for help is always the right thing to do is a must here.
- You'll keep busy even when waiting. You know there is never nothing to do on a jobsite.
- You want a role where career growth is possible and encouraged.
- You are seeking a role in a small business environment, where your contributions truly make a difference.
- You value honesty and integrity, and would never ‘ghost’ an employer or “quiet-quit”.
- You have a keen eye for detail. No task is “half-assed” if it's done by you. You take great pride in the quality of the work you do.
- You understand the importance of keeping job sites clean, tidy, and safe.
- You are eager to learn and expand your skill set; our team teaches you not just one trade, but a variety of them.
- You are comfortable traveling within a 50 mile range of Ventura.
- You thrive in an environment of camaraderie and teamwork, where everyone works together towards shared goals.
- You want to work for a company that treats you like family, where your well-being and growth are paramount.
You are not right for this role if...
- You are just looking for a quick job or something short term. We are looking for long term employment opportunities.
- You are not able to communicate, whether it be from fear of failure or a lack of caring.
- You are known for sitting around/being on your phone on the job when a manager is not on site.
- You don’t ask for help and instead just guess on how to do it, or don’t do it at all. We expect our team to pick up a phone and call our managers or go and find the manager if help is needed.
- You prefer the anonymity of working for larger corporations and do not value the personal connections found in small businesses.
- You will cut corners to complete a job.
- You care more about rushing through something to have down time versus taking the extra time to do the job right.
- You are only looking for a job to fulfill basic duties, without any desire to become part of a supportive team.
- You are not interested in learning new skills and prefer to stick to what you already know. We aren’t building large complex buildings here, but small sheds that may require you to work differently than what you’re used to.
- You are not willing to travel within the specified range as part of your job responsibilities.
