The Prevention Coordinator directs the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of prevention strategies to address Substance Abuse and Mental Illness for the assigned geographical area. The Prevention Manager performs a variety of administrative tasks and ensures prevention staff and community partners have the resources and training necessary to implement evidence-based prevention strategies.
Example of Duties:

Supervises prevention team; evaluates staff and conducts performance reviews

Provides training on specialized health education
- Utilizes the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) to develop comprehensive community-level prevention

Builds prevention capacity and partnerships with community stakeholders

Seeks grant funding opportunities & drafts proposals that target areas consistent with data findings

Prepares monthly finance reports; monitors and reports on grant budgets and spending
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles of management and supervision. Considerable knowledge of the psychological and physiological effects of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs; considerable knowledge and understanding of public health methods and procedures; considerable knowledge of health education methods and preventative health practices. Ability to develop curriculum, lesson plans, skill building activities, audio-visual materials and other motivational and educational materials; ability to assess community and personal health needs and plan and implement effective public health programs; ability to work with antagonistic or even hostile people; ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing. Ability to establish good working relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, employers, property owners, hospitals, health care providers, human service providers, and other local health departments, Utah Department of Health, local school districts, business and civic leaders, elected officials and the general public. Must have a valid Utah Driver License and will be required to travel during the day and overnight. Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds.
