JOB SUMMARY: Administers a comprehensive health service program designed to help students achieve maximum benefit from the district’s educational programs and services.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Provides assistance to sick and injured students. Administers first aid. Makes exclusion or readmission recommendations regarding students with communicable diseases or other health concerns. • Develops procedures to ensure all medications are stored safely. Evaluates district procedures for administering medications and training staff. • Ensures that immunization status of all students is in compliance with state law. • Performs all required state minimum student health-screening activities. • Reviews completed emergency medical authorization forms. Communicates information to staff when required to protect students’ health and/or well-being. Coordinates training for staff assigned to provide care for students with special medical needs. • Instructs teachers in the early identification of student health risks. Evaluates suspected medical, visual, or hearing problems. Consults with parents/guardians as needed. Makes medical referrals. • Consults with district administrators regarding student health services. Helps identify safety and health hazards. Investigates and documents injuries. Recommends policy revisions based upon professional guidelines and standards. Assists with blood-borne pathogens issues/concerns. • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law. • Ensures that signed permission forms are on file as needed for the release of health information. • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time. • Respects personal privacy and maintains the confidentiality of privileged information. • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures. Promotes a favorable image of the school district. Encourages community partnerships that enhance district programs and services. • Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Education, Superintendent, or Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: • Valid Ohio registered nurse and school nurse licenses or certificates. • Meets all mandated health requirements. • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of normal growth and development. • Demonstrates the ability to access pharmacology information and community health resources to the needs of the students. • Training in behavioral management techniques. • A record free of criminal violation that would prohibit public school employment. • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies. • Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment. • Ability to maintain medication and medical records following regulations, HIPAA, security protocols, retention requirements, and proper disposal.
SALARY & CONTRACT: APPLICATION PROCESS: Placement on the SCCTC Certified Salary Schedule (starting salary $47,176 - $83,421 based on education and experience) and benefits package.
