Thorek Memorial Hospital is a stable community hospital with its roots in Chicago for almost 100 years. We are currently seeking a Full-time Medical Assistant to join our nursing team and our growing hospital that can start immediately.
The individual is responsible for the daily clinical work in the clinic and will assist the physicians in the various clinics under the supervision of the Ambulatory Care Director. They are committed to providing excellent patient care and safety.
The main responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to the following:
A. Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all traffic in the assigned clinic
- Possesses knowledge of all clinic procedures
- Responsible for setting up equipment for procedures in specific clinics and assisting the physician (Internal Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Podiatry)
- Administers initial part of the health exam (i.e. height, weight, eyes, throat swabs and specimens)
- Assesses and documents the condition of patients aged 0 to 100+ years and reports immediately any unexpected signs, symptoms or unusual occurrences
- Observes universal precautions
B. Clerical Responsibilities:
- Documents patient notes in EMR
- Picks up all reports (lab, EKG, X-ray, etc.) and hands them to the appropriate staff nurse to be checked
- Answers all inquiries within their scope; refers all questions regarding medical test results or legal questions to the physician or staff nurse
- Makes appointments for various clinics
- Follows up on abnormal tests under the direction of the staff nurse
- Maintains files on all patients
- Arranges admission for clinic patients
- Prepares necessary charge slips
- Collects data for Quality Improvement program as assigned
- Obtain pre-authorization for visits
- Performs data entry as assigned
C. Patient Safety:
- Performs all procedures and conducts self in accordance with hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures
- Takes necessary precautions when transporting patients
Job Requirements:
- Medical Assistant Certificate required
- 1 year hospital settings experience desired
- CPR required
