American Welding and Gas has an immediate need for a Credit and A/R Specialist in our Raleigh, NC headquarters.
The Credit and A/R Specialist is responsible for analyzing credit data and financial information of current customer accounts. This role assesses credit risk and credit worthiness of new and existing customers and evaluates accounts for extended credit terms and credit limits. This position includes processing of customer payments and cash sales/credit card payments as well as researching and resolving customer account issues; processing of miscellaneous adjustments; processing refund requests related to overpayments on customer accounts; and providing support for the AWG Team.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Receiving credit applications along with supplementary paperwork.
- Reviewing documents in a timely manner and ensuring their completion and precision.
- Customer Master Data - Perform risk analysis, determine credit worthiness, and assign appropriate credit limits on new accounts.
- Inform customers about the outcomes of their credit applications.
- Make determinations regarding the increase or decrease of customer credit limits and assign higher or lower credit limits to accounts.
- Place customer accounts with an outside collection agency.
- Initiate refunds to customer accounts.
- Exercise authority to initiate loss of use billing on an account when needed.
- Aid in the billing of daily and monthly invoices & statements.
- Create varies excel reports when applicable.
- Applying cash on a timely basis when directed. Cash application processing can include - Posting all lockbox receipts, aging spreadsheets, including electronic payments (i.e., ACH and Wire Transfer) and credit card payments received by the collection team.
- Proper deduction reason code assignment for over/short payments and identifying and properly posting of unidentified and unapplied payments when directed.
- Maintaining monthly bad debt accounts and spreadsheet for review.
- Cross train on the duties of the other Credit & AR processors and provide back-up when needed.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
- 1-3 years related work experience with credit, collections, accounts receivable experience as well as experience interacting with customers
- Works well under pressure
- Proficient use of Windows based computer software and the use of spreadsheets with a high level of efficiency with Excel
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest and percentages
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail, demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people in a team environment
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment due to delays or unexpected requests
