Job Description
POSITION: Medical Biller/Coder
General Responsibilities: The Medical Biller/Coder is responsible for the extraction of information and the assignment of a proper code, using the correct format, in order to bill medical claims. The individual must serve as the “go to” person for matters regarding medical coding. The individual is also expected to provide back-up for general billing services.
Position reports to: Billing Supervisor
Essential job functions:
- Maintain an active knowledge of industry standards and requirements regarding medical coding and billing.
- Review medical records, extract pertinent data and assign appropriate code for services rendered and documented.
- Provide education for clinical team with regard to appropriate documentation for coding purposes.
- Utilize resources to investigate uncommon coding and ensure an accurately assigned code.
- Uphold a strict ethical practice in medical coding and ensure that claims are coded and processed in a legally compliant manner.
- Assist with general billing duties as necessary to include opening mail and data entry.
- Assist with answering general patient questions and addressing patient needs.
- Assist with the training of new and existing employees as requested.
Position Requirements:
- 2-5 years experience in medical billing/coding profession.
- Current Medical Coding certification or obtain certification within 1 year of employment.
- Previous anesthesia or hospital coding required.
- Associates degree in related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge and comfort using computer applications, including Microsoft Office products.
- Strong grasp of the English language.
Environmental Conditions:
- Involves extensive computer use including viewing a monitor and typing on a keyboard.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
