Job Responsibilities
- Opens building; inspects boiler/standpipe/fire alarm systems (maintains necessary certificates for these systems)
- Keeps building/ground clean, neat, and safe at all times.
- Perform routine daily cleaning tasks (sweep, mop, dust desks/woodwork, order supplies); perform summer cleaning (wax and buffer floors, order furniture and other equipment, wash/paint walls and windows)
- Clean and mop lavatories, cafeteria and gym locker rooms and replace soap and towels
- Empty wastebaskets and collect/ dispose refuse
- Set-up/break-down chairs, tables and other furniture or equipment as requested
- Complete handyman/maintenance repairs
- Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the school office.
Required Knowledge
- Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and the ability to use them economically and efficiently
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of heating systems and fire alarms including possessing these certificates (or be willing to study and sit for the certification within the first 2 months of hire):
- Category S-95: Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fire Alarm and other related systems
- Category S-13: Certificate of Fitness for Citywide Standpipe Systems Operator
- Category P-99: Certificate of Fitness for Gas Fired Low Pressure Steam Boiler Operator
- Asbestos Training
- Must pass the Archdiocese of NY background check and participate in Virtus (Safe Environment Program) training.
Very good physical condition and strength. School is a 4 story building with no elevator.
