The East Carolina Anesthesia Associates (ECAA) team is seeking a dedicated part-time Clinical Assistant to join our ECPC Midtown Pain and Spine Clinic in Raleigh. Job Summary:
The Clinical Assistant is a vital role to the pain clinic. The Clinical Assistant will utilize both clinical and administrative tasks to help clinicians in the pain clinic. Daily responsibilities include, assisting the physician before/during/after procedures, in addition to various administrative tasks such as conducting prior authorizations and documenting medical information into the electronic medical records (EMR) system. The Clinical Assistant identifies patients’ needs, provides safe and professional care, and communicates any needs to the provider. The Clinical Assistant must be attentive to patient needs and communicate any potential issues to staff. The Clinical Assistant will have to demonstrate professionalism and tact during difficult patient situations. The Clinical Assistant will:
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Independently perform a comprehensive patient intake by gathering the past medical and surgical history, documenting the current presentation, pertinent medications, and recent imaging.
· Prepare relevant diagnostic imaging to be reviewed with the provider.
· Present the patient history to the provider.
· Document the patient encounter in our EMR.
· Reduce the provider workload by performing tasks and anticipating their needs essential to efficient patient care.
· Complete medication prior authorizations including appeals and denials.
· Collect urine samples for drug screening and analyze the results to assess patient compliance.
· Assist providers with procedures.
· Collect pre and post procedural vital signs for interventional procedures.
· Review new patient referrals for relevant past medical history, medications and previous treatments.
· Return phone calls from patients, pharmacies, and insurance companies in a timely manner to prevent delays in patient treatment.
· Respond to incoming faxes.
· Maintain a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all duties.
· Keep an open line of communication with co-workers and providers regarding patient needs.
· Handle difficult situations with professionalism and tact.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
● High school diploma or equivalent required.
● Bachelor’s degree or additional training is preferred but not required.
● One-two years’ experience as a medical assistant is recommended, but not required.
● Knowledge of medical terminology.
● Proficiency with EMR preferred.
