The primary function of the circulating RN is to monitor the procedures in the operating rooms during surgery. During operations and other surgical procedures, the Circulator assists by acting as an intermediary between the operating room staff and the rest of the hospital.
Admit post anesthesia patient and receives records and report on patient.
Reviews OR records, sets up equipment and carries out orders for patient care and recovery.
Observes patients, records and reports unusual or abnormal symptoms and takes remedial action to alleviate unfavorable effects as outlined in procedure manual.
Assists physician and anesthetist, provides supplies, medications, equipment as ordered.
Administers oxygen
Starts IV's
Suctions airways and keeps them open.
Administers drugs (Oral, parenteral) as prescribed.
Charts patient care and observations.
Evaluates patients' recovery and when fully recovered notifies surgical unit of patient transfer. Transports patient to surgical unit with records and gives oral reports to receiving nurse.
Answers telephone, completes forms, charting duties, writing charges, counting narcotics, and maintaining records.
Performs or direct cleaning procedures in recovery room.
