Performs professional work in all clinical areas and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed and supervised under the Public Health Nurse Supervisor. The normal work schedule includes Monday to Friday 8:00AM 5:00 PM and may occasionally require evening and weekend hours to promote clinic services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs: considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to secure the cooperation of clients to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Cross trained in all clinical service areas of Primary Care, Child Health, Family Planning, Adult Health, Maternity, BCCP, Wisewoman, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and Employee Health and Wellness.
Follow up with lab results and referrals from all clinics.
Assist with new mobile screening bus, as needed.
CPR Instruction.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Graduated from a school of professional nursing with an Associates Degree in Nursing and 1 year of Nursing experience; or Graduated from a 4-year College or University with a B.S. Degree in Nursing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires sitting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
This position is subject to random drug screenings.
