Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant/Tax Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong financial background and be proficient in various accounting tasks. Staff Accountant Responsibilities:
- Process, record and pay invoices, bills, and other transactions.
- Handle billing processes for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
- Invoicing, verify accuracy, apply deposits and execute any necessary credit memos or requested revisions.
- Process credit card transactions.
- Record fiscal transactions, balancing and reconciling accounts.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records including journal entries, general ledger and financial statements.
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes including reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Analyze and verify financial information, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
- Assist in budget preparation.
- Provide support for special ad-hoc financial analysis as needed.
- Provide technical support and advice.
- Resolve accounting issues through communication with departments, vendors and clients.
- Process Business Returns such as Sales Tax, Business Licenses and Personal Property.
- Perform a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for paycheck advances, and processing terminations, according to established procedures. Preparing and filing payroll tax reports.
- Ensure compliance with tax professional standards and ethics, including company rules, policies and regulations regarding the safeguard of client information.
- Work effectively to manage workflow.
Tax Associate Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation and Filing: Accurately prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and other entities. Ensure compliance with varying tax regulations and deadlines.
- Tax Consulting and Planning: Provide strategic tax planning advice to clients to minimize tax liability and ensure future financial goals are met while remaining compliant with the law.
- Client Management: Build and maintain relationships with clients, providing high-quality customer service and ensuring that all their tax-related needs are met.
- Continuing Education: Stay updated with the latest tax laws and regulations through continuing professional education.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of all client interactions, filings, and representations.
- IRS Representation: Assist EA’s and CPA’s with tax audits and inquiries by governmental authorities
Skills:
- Proficiency in financial statement preparation
- Experience in public accounting is a plus
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills
- Knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting software
- Ability to perform account analysis and reconcile discrepancies
- Understanding of debits, credits, and general ledger functions
- Familiarity with various financial software applications
- Exposure to tax procedures and regulatory reporting requirements
- Accounting Degree Preferred
