The Project Accountant is accountable for monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project billings are issued to customers and payments collected. General accounting duties include accounts receivable, accounts payable, certified payroll, job costing, and general ledger posting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create project accounts in Sage 100/CMiC, owning job cost tracking, analysis, and reporting.
- Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
- Authorize access to project accounts and expenses of project-related accounts.
- Review and approve supplier invoices and overhead charges related to a project.
- Review account totals related to project assets and expenses.
- Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
- Confer with receivables staff regarding unpaid contract billings.
- Report on project profitability to management and funding available for projects.
- Approve the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers.
- Close out project accounts upon project completion.
- Create and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects.
- Create and submit G702/G703 AIA Documents to the owner.
- Responsible for the processing, reviewing, tracking, and general ledger posting of construction draws for multiple projects.
- Manage project financial communication and construction accounting with internal and external partners.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree with at least 2 years of job experience in construction; General Contractor Accounting preferred.
- Self-starter that can work with limited supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Understand a small business organization and can multitask.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills essential.
- Ability to organize and support multiple projects at the same time.
- In lieu of degree, an additional 2 years of experience required.
