Title: Dental Hygienist
Reports To: Site Lead
Supervision Exercised: None
Typical Working Conditions: General office conditions, involves standing and walking, ocassionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30lbs. Requires frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to clinic environment.
Qualifications: Graduate of accredited dental hygienist school and licensed to practice hygiene in the state of New York.
Primary Function: Provide comprehensive dental care in collaboration with FHN Dentist to Family Health Network clients to the capacity of scope.
General Statement of Duties:
· Removing calcareous deposits, accretions and stains, including scaling and planing of exposed root surfaces indicated for a complete prophylaxis.
· Applying topical agents indicated for a complete dental prophylaxis.
· Removing excess cement from surfaces of the teeth.
· Providing patient education.
· Placing and exposing x-ray films.
· Performing topical fluoride applications and topical anesthetic applications.
· Polishing teeth, including existing restorations.
· Taking medical historyincluding the measuring and recording of vital signs.
· Charting caries and periodontal conditions as an aid to the diagnosis bythe dentist.
· Applying pit and fissure sealants.
· Coordinator and provider of school services as assigned.
· Assist receptionist with patient schedule, patient payments, etc.
· Oral hygiene instruction/education for the patient.
· Suture removal.
· Preliminary alginate impressions.
· To plan and deliver lectures to community organizations and other groups of children and adults, using posters, slides, models, motion pictures, and other visual aids.
· To provide preventive in service training for dental assistants and departments.
· To comply with governmental safety, health rules and regulations.
· To maintain dental charts in accordance with health center policies.
· This position requires compliance with Health Center’s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct and policies and procedures pertaining to all operational aspects, furthermore this position is required to report any suspected instances of noncompliance.
· Maintain strictest confidentiality.
· All other duties as assigned.
· This position will function as a contributing member of the FHN Dramatic Performance Improvement Model of Care to ensure that FHN’s Team-Based Care is the most sustainable, efficient method for providing high-quality, satisfying, and equitable health care to our patient population.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $83,200.00 - $101,420.80 per year
