Gaston Day School is an independent, coeducational day school for 500 students in grades PS-12.
This posting is for a full-time middle school science teacher. A competitive candidate will be well-versed in teaching concepts from the study of Earth’s systems to the study of space and life science through hands-on inquiry activities, note-taking, class discussions, research projects, and group work. The position also requires a candidate who excels in differentiated instruction and can assist struggling learners while challenging the most academically talented students. Applicants should be comfortable using and integrating technology into lessons.
Gaston Day middle school science teachers are responsible for teaching students science concepts, including Earth’s systems and life science, in alignment with the curriculum set by the Middle School Coordinator and Science Department Chair. They are enthusiastic about their subject and passionate about fostering student knowledge and understanding. Beyond academic instruction, Gaston Day middle school science teachers also supervise students during various school activities. They are dedicated to the well-being of all Gaston Day students and prioritize the school's best interests.
Broad responsibilities:
- Instruct students in science in accordance with curriculum requirements and objectives, effectively using technology, textbooks, and other instructional materials as appropriate.
- Establish and actively maintain a class environment that honors excellence in learning and values respectful interaction between and among students.
- Work with students to develop a love of learning, academic integrity, and a thoughtful work ethic.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and assessments that integrate project-based learning opportunities.
- Participate as an active team member within the science department, the middle school faculty, and the school community.
- Support and model the middle school’s advisory program and social contract.

Reporting:
The middle school science teacher will report to the Middle School Coordinator and the Science Department Chair.
Experience and education requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in science or a related field from an accredited institution is required, and an advanced degree is preferred. Three+ years teaching middle school science is also preferred.
