Job / Description:
Class A (OTR) Driver
Premier Transportation and Warehousing Inc is looking for an experienced Class A (OTR) driver is responsible for safely transporting oversize tool Industrial machinery across the nation, to each customer locations. This position is over-the-road and required to travel in 4-5 days segments and occasionally more than 5 days plus overnight. Driver must to be on time at delivery or when receiving a load at a customer. Driver make sure load is properly positioned, secured and covered before transporting any delivery or after loaded from a customer. Driver is responsible for pre and post trip inspections on their load and equipment must follow all DOT safety rules and regulations. All load and driver information, changes must be communicated with Dispatcher.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Operates heavy equipment in accordance with state and federal transportation laws.
- Transports loads safely and in a timely manner over required route, obeying all traffic laws and observe all safety rules and regulations required.
- Check both tractor and trailer to ensure in operational and mechanically, safely, and emergency equipped in a good working order.
- Maintains and update log status to being compliance with (HOS) hours service regulations.
- Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from spotters and check vehicle with loaded equipment/product are properly positioned.
- Secures loaded product using ropes, straps, blocks, chains, binders, or covers.
- Collect, receive and check proper documents, bills and verifying load permits for each approved legal state routes.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to Safety and appropriate personnel.
- Highly motivated and ready to perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to travel in segments of 4-5 days and occasionally more than 5 days, overnight included.
- Ability to read and understand oversize routes and permits.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds to move objects.
- Prolonged hours on a driver seat, while sitting and driving.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Temperatures can be below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees for periods longer than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, crawl and squat to perform inspections, securing, tarping loads as required.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Valid Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Clean MVR and PSP checks
- Ability to pass a back ground check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Medical Examiner’s Certification [Medical Card]
- Ability to pass a Pre-Employment and Random Drug and Alcohol Testing (FMCSA requirement)
- Ability to obtain and maintain TWIC card.
- No Accidents or rollovers
- Ability to pass Pre-Employment Road Test
- 2+ years of Tractor and Flat Bed Trailer experience.
- 2+ years of flat-bed and oversize load experience (some units are 12’ wide).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Medical Examiner’s Certification [Medical Card]
- Must pass background, drug and Alcohol testing as required by federal and/or state department(s) of transportation regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak professionally and courteously with customers and staff at delivery points.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
