Preble Street’s Teen Outreach Services supports youth ages 16 – 24 experiencing homelessness or housing instability with a low-barrier, Housing First approach, connecting youth to long-term housing options and offering intensive, supportive services and case management toward achieving and maintaining housing stability.
Preble Street’s Teen Outreach Services team is seeking a full-time, community-based Street Outreach Specialist to work with youth and young adults in York and Cumberland counties. This position ensures basic needs are met while facilitating access to safe shelter, housing, and supportive services through building relationships with clients, engaging in mediation and conflict resolution, maintaining client safety, and providing crisis intervention and support. The Street Outreach Specialist will engage in identifying and supporting youths experiencing homelessness through collaboration with community partners with wraparound services and referrals while providing training and technical assistance.
This is a full-time position with a Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00 - 5:30pm schedule, with evening hours as required.
Qualifications
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in social work or related field and experience relevant to working with youth experiencing homelessness, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
This position also requires understanding of and alignment with Preble Street’s mission, positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty, as well as strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills; skills in providing training and technical assistance; familiarity with community resources; strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain documentation of services; ability to maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations; the ability to work collaboratively with team members; and the ability to promote productive, collaborative relationships with external partners.
Eligibility for employment with Teen Services also requires that staff be at least 21 years of age; hold certification or become certified in First Aid and CPR (on-site training opportunities offered); provide proof of education (diploma or transcript); and have acceptable background check results. Teen Services staff also must attend recurrent, regularly scheduled trainings, which are provided on-site.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly rate of pay for this full-time (40 hours/week) position is $22.45 per hour, as well as generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits including:
- 4 weeks (160 hours, accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 16 hours personal time, 12 Paid Holidays
