Position Summary:Under limited guidance must be fully capable of running all presses and support equipment and may be utilized as a fill-in operator at times. Will follow established procedures to safely set-up transfer presses in an efficient manner to produce a quality part and stage dies is designated areas in accordance with the current schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, align, secure, and adjust dies in the press the safe and proper way per defined procedures and on the job training.
- Performs required operations to set up, operate and adjust various sizes and types of machines, using fork lifts and overhead cranes.
- Performs required operations to set up, operate and adjust various transfer systems and components.
- Inspects last piece and first piece with assistance of production, tool and die, and quality control to suggest any adjustments or repairs required.
- Reads work orders, set up instructions and diagrams to determine specific tolerances and sequences of operation for machine set up.
- Positions, adjusts, and secures stock material or work pieces in automatic feeding systems and production tools.
- Checks parts for proper tolerances, surface blemishes, dimensions, etc. and collaborates with tool and die and quality control to make adjustments to compensate for irregularities.
- Troubleshoots dies (in presses and on the production floor), applying knowledge to create temporary fixes, when necessary, as well as permanent corrective repairs to maintain/improve machine uptime, insuring proper preparation and storage of dies.
- Program, optimize and troubleshoot electrical servo systems.
- Program Smart Pac’s and update necessary information within setup instructions and other documentation to formally standardize the programming processes.
- Work with scheduling to create and maintain staging areas for dies in accordance with the latest information.
- Provide technical and production support and training, including troubleshooting machinery or equipment such as dies, fingers, presses, sensors, Smart Pac, feed and auxiliary equipment.
- Provide assistance and input when incorporating sensors and other measurement technology into new and existing processes to improve quality and/or productivity.
- Provide assistance and input with engineering improvements for process setups, material handling, storage, layouts, work cells, and any other functions that directly impact the manufacturing performance.
- Adjust safety devices and guards, scrap and part removal chutes, raw material feeders.
- Perform daily end of shift inventories of required tools, bolts, etc. at each press.
- Properly cleans, transports and stores dies in appropriate locations.
- Upon completion of set up, removes unused tools and equipment, storing them in appropriate locations.
- Reports up-to-date required information relative to job books, production reports and SPC sheets. Maintains documentation, both in writing and in Plex, as required.
- Understands what each tooling piece controls and the ability to distinguish tooling problems from press problems.
- Inspects work pieces for defects, and measures work pieces to determine accuracy of machine operation.
- Responsible for the reduction of downtime as related to all aspects of the die set-up and changeover processes utilizing best practices.
- Create, maintain, monitor regularly, and drive improvement of Standardized Work Instructions for die set-up and changeover processes and procedures.
- Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions. Ensures all safety equipment is in place and press can be operated in a safe manner.
- Responsible for knowledge of ITAF quality procedures that affect work area.
- Able to set up in the Eaton area, including setting the die sensors and running all 3 presses.
- Performs all Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Machine Operator, Press Operator, Crane Operator and Material Handler, as needed.
- Assist in training and supporting all operators on proper procedures and standardized work instructions.
