A Sleep Technician - Polysomnographic Technologist works to provide comprehensive diagnostic testing of sleep disorders. This may involve diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory
- Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
- Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Generate accurate reports by tabulating data.
- Perform routine equipment care and maintenance.
- Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory.
- Respond to study participant’s procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
- Comply with the sleep center and professional association's Standards of Conduct.
- Assist in the evaluation of each staff member under his/her supervision annually and establish goals for the upcoming year. Monitor employee progress toward these goals.
- Ensure ongoing sleep center compliance with all laws and regulations; ensure that the sleep center meets or exceeds accreditation standards; and implement ‘’best practices’’ in all departmental activities.
- Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.
- Participate in the sleep center’s Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
- Direct and participate in sleep center committees when requested.
- Pursue continuing education programs appropriate to job responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
