Duties and Responsibilities
-
Develop and provide maintenance oversight for the inpatient medicine curriculum.

Develops and revises expectations of residents in coordination with the Residency Program Director.

Participates in faculty development activities, especially those focused on developing and implementing competency-based medical education (CBME) for medical students and residents.
-
Develop a curriculum for teaching skills, including bedside teaching, upper-level resident supervision, and verbal feedback to residents, in alignment with JABSOM CBME initiatives.

Teach and supervise medical students, post-graduate residents, and faculty.

Oversee Team Care Attendings at Kuakini Medical Center and provide feedback to attending physicians in conjunction with the IM clerkship and residency program directors.

Oversee Chief Medical Resident at Kuakini Medical Center

Conduct and/or promote research and scholarship

Evaluate and manage learners and maintain a clinical learning environment

May serve as Director of Medical Education at Kuakini Medical Center

Promote safety and quality in the clinical setting

Other scholarly duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor
-
MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
-
Maintaining certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and/or American Board of Medical Specialties.

Valid Hawaii Medical license by date of hire.

Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care
-
Evidence of effective research, scholarly activity, or medical education administration is required
-
Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation
-
Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
-
Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others
-
Familiar with ACGME requirements.
Associate Professor
Same as Assistant Professor plus:
-
Four years at rank of Assistant professor or equivalent.
-
Evidence of skill in tutoring and delivery of lectures and conferences/colloquia, and expertise as a resource person in chosen field.

Clear recognition as a scholar/clinician among peers at the local, regional, and/or national levels.
Desirable Qualifications
-
Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation
-
Familiarity with LCME requirements and Continuing Medical Education
-
Eligible to be credentialed if needed.
