The Wilshire Ebell Theatre at The Ebell of Los Angeles
One of the oldest live performance venues in Los Angeles, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre has a proud history of welcoming artists from around the world for nearly 100 years. The theatre is part of The Ebell of Los Angeles, an educational and philanthropic organization founded by women for women in 1894, with a mission to participate in and encourage the educational, cultural and social growth of the diverse Los Angeles community. The Wilshire Ebell Theatre is an integral part of that mission.
The Wilshire Ebell Theatre is looking for Theatre Attendants. Responsibilities include the following:
Brief Overview:
Theatre Attendants welcome theatre guests into the venue for a variety of shows including concerts, fundraisers, dances, plays, and more. Tasks will include directing patrons to their seats, checking tickets, providing audience members with programs, tending to guests’ comfort and safety, and giving directions to various locations throughout the theatre including bathrooms, concessions, and exits. Other tasks are dependent on shift position. See below for more information.
Full Description:
The theatre attendant, reporting to Theatre Managers, will fill one of the following important house roles for an event or shift: usher, ticket taker, concessions personnel, facilities personnel, parking attendant, box office assistant, or merchandise seller. Please note, not all of these roles are needed for every shift. Please see below for more detailed information about each role an attendant may be asked to fill:
Usher: The main duty of an attendant. Usher duties are to:
· Assist patrons to their seats
· Direct patrons throughout the theatre
· Monitor house doors and entryways
Ticket Taker: The second most prominent duty of an attendant. Ticket taker duties include:
· Confirm, collect, scan, or tear tickets of patrons entering the building
· Maintain and manage re-entry procedures
Concessions Personnel: This role manages and runs our concessions booth. Duties include:
· Setting up and tearing down concessions
· Selling snacks and drinks to audience members
· Keep area clean and organized
Facilities/Parking Attendant: This role assists in making sure the event runs smoothly and as the client sees it. Duties include:
· Setting up lobby and box office area per instructions
· Assist in crowd control
· Assist in clean up of restrooms and dressing rooms
· Direct patrons to appropriate parking areas
Box Office Personnel: Sell and assign tickets as well as assist patrons who have seating issues. Other duties include:
· Assisting patrons with various needs such as hearing devices or viewing devices
· Manage will-call tickets
Merchandise: sell and manage artist/client merchandise.
· Handle all sales (cash and credit card)
· Keep track of sale numbers
· Report sales to Theatre Managers
· Keep merch table organized and cleaned
Other potential duties:
· Answer patron questions
· Control area, ensure safety
· Clear aisles before/after show
· General duties as assigned (see above for role descriptions)
· Operate 2-way radios
· Assist other departments when necessary and as directed including recovering missing items, collecting trash, and checking doors
· Respond to a wide range of customer service issues with sensitivity and care
· May assist in verifying staff credentials to generally restricted areas
· Provide assistance to guests with special needs
· Resolve guest complaints or problems
Minimum Requirements:
· Ability to learn quickly, adapt, problem solve
· Must be able to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment
· Possess strong verbal interpersonal communications
· Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others
· Must be able to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
· Must have professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic
· Must be fluent in English; multilingual candidates are a plus!
