Medical Assistants under the Nephrology Consultants of NW Ohio (NCNWO) clinics provide routine clinical and clerical tasks under the supervision of a physician. Physicians may delegate to Medical assistants in the NCNWO Clinics certain clinical tasks as described in this policy.
This position will work within a collaborative care environment with primary and various medical specialty providers.
Strong work ethic and positive attitude is an absolute requirement.
The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting physicians and other healthcare providers with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinic services. Conveys a positive image of the clinic and organization.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY
Clerical Duties
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
Check-in, check-out processes and answering phones.
Clinical Duties:
- Perform clinical procedures under supervision of physician or healthcare provider.
- Performs necessary job functions for opening clinics at the beginning of appointments and ensuring clinics are properly closed when leaving at the end of the day. This includes proper lock down of equipment, cleaning of rooms and restocking as needed.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in the patient's chart.
- Communicate instruction to patients as instructed by physician or healthcare provider in a clear and professional manner.
- Ensure all related reports, labs and information is available in the patient medical record prior to their appointment (Chart Prep).
- Prescription verification with direction of nurses and physician’s orders.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments or testing equipment and prepare sterilization as required.
- Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician, providers and RNs/pharmacy calls in a clear and concise manner.
- Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians, RNs and other providers.
- Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control standards.
- Fulfills organization responsibilities as assigned which includes, respecting/promoting patient rights, responding appropriately to emergencies, sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly.
- All other duties as assigned by clinical coordinator or practice administrator.
- Travel will be required for this position.

EDUCATION
High School Diploma
Active RMA or CMA- REQUIRED
Current, active BLS certification at time of hire - REQUIRED. Must consistently maintain BLS certification.
Maintains any other certification as required by the medical community
EXPERIENCE
Prefer 1-2 years’ experience in medical office setting, preferable Nephrology. Knowledge of EPIC is a plus. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work with physicians, patients, and employees at all levels. Must have the capacity to relate to people in a manner to win confidence and establish support.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primarily sedentary in nature with occasional lifting of small objects weighing approximately 10 pounds; sitting; standing; walking; talking; and hearing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily inside in well-lighted, well-ventilated areas.

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
