Position Summary:
Plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
Unit Information:
38 beds with 24 of the beds being telemetry-capable. This unit has added telemetry beds to enhance care for patients. While focus is on care of the cancer patient, medical patients can be admitted to his unit as well. Length of stay is typically five to six days with many of the unit's patients returning for treatment regularly. Nurses periodically administer chemotherapy. Nurses who administer chemotherapy are required to have their ONS certification. ONS certification is preferred, recommended, and strongly encouraged, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Verbal and written skills required. Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills. Is knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served.
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Associate's Degree Nursing
Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure.
Preferred Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Nursing
- Diploma or Certificate Program Nursing
Other Information:Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs. Visual acuity for observation of patients. Much standing, walking, bending and lifting. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
