Summary
Under general supervision the Irrigation Technician / Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance of the Golf Course. This position requires a skilled technician with a major emphasis in irrigation maintenance, installation, plumbing, and electrical repair, operation of central control irrigation system, and general golf course duties at Olympia Hills Golf and Event Center. This position requires operating and maintaining various types of light to heavy-duty equipment used in golf course maintenance as well as the possible application of pesticides and herbicides for weed control under direct supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing sprinkler systems, keeping the golf course free of trash and other debris, repairing ruts, and maintaining grass and shrubbery to include mowing, trimming, and weed eating. Employee is directly responsible for the safety of self and indirectly responsible for the safety of co-workers and general public. Employee performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Golf Course Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Irrigation Technician:
- Familiar with computerized irrigation control systems such as Toro LTC Plus and all associated components.
- Knowledge of materials and products used in landscape irrigation installation and maintenance.
- Experience with wire tracer and remote unit operation and use.
- Sets sprinkler heads and valve boxes.
- Performs skilled duties operating a variety of light to heavy equipment used in making irrigation repairs, to include but not limited to, a trencher, mini-track hoe, backhoe, and skid steer.
- Conducts routine irrigation system inspections for proper function and replaces controllers and irrigation heads as needed to ensure optimal performance and conservation of water.
- Install, replace/repair and maintain irrigation systems at Golf Course.
- Purchase parts required to repair or renovate irrigation systems while maintaining accurate inventory.
- Assists in activating and deactivating irrigation systems according to seasonal priorities or pre-established schedules.
- Communicates with Golf Course Superintendent on a routine basis to ensure satisfaction with service and solves problems.
- Assists in ensuring irrigation jobs are managed within budget to meet or exceed all required financial performance metrics.
- Assists in adjusting irrigation schedules to maximize capacity and efficiency of workflow.
- Assists in maintaining a well-stocked irrigation parts inventory.
- Use computer, laptop and/or mobile device to complete work activities when necessary.
- Works approximately 40 hours per week.
- Attendance is an essential duty of this position.
- Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Grounds Superintendent.

Groundskeeper:
The Irrigation Technician performs all duties of the Irrigation Technician in addition to the following Groundskeeper duties on an “as needed” basis:
- Maintains and repairs the putting greens and trees by watering, reseeding, manicuring, spiking topdressing and mowing using specialized equipment.
- Maintains and repairs sand traps, fairways, and roughs by raking, watering, edging, spiking, aerifying, weeding and manicuring.
- Maintains and repairs ornamental plantings around golf course facilities and structures.
- Performs custodial work such as removing trash and leaves from the course and around facilities and structures.
- Performs related duties by assisting the mechanic with golf cart repairs and policing the golf course.

Education and/or Experience
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Irrigation system installation or repair experience.
· Valid Texas Irrigator Technician License issued by TCEQ; Preferred but not required.
· Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
· Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate mechanical equipment (vehicles, mowers, shredders, weed eaters, etc.), reach with hands and arms, drive vehicles, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb, twist, reach, push and pull; and the employee may be required to lift, carry and/or move objects weighing 10-25 lbs. frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working conditions are primarily outside with exposure to temperature variations; occasional exposure to hazardous chemical irritants, noxious odors and fumes sometimes requiring the use of protective breathing apparatus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time benefits eligible position. The work schedule is normally 5:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Wednesday, Thursday 5:00 am to 12:00 pm, Friday 5:00 am to 10:00 am, and every other Saturday and Sunday 5:00 am to 9:00 am. Overtime, evening, and weekend work are required as needed. The work schedule for this position is subject to change depending on the needs of the department and the City.
Travel
An employee in this position may be required to drive a vehicle to perform daily tasks and to various meetings, functions, and events; may be required to travel out of town to represent the City at meetings, conferences and for training.
Pre-Employment Testing
If a conditional offer of employment is received, employment is contingent upon receiving satisfactory results from the required physical exam, drug/alcohol test and background investigation.
