The Position:
The ADEC Advocate and Volunteer Specialist will not only enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities but also strengthen community connections and promote a culture of inclusivity. This position will play a vital role in fostering community participation and involvement while creating a more vibrant and inclusive community for all. The Advocate and Volunteer Specialist will stand as the Self-Advocates of ADEC liaison. This position will also focus on coordinating and planning a wide range of community activities including but not limited to sports leagues, group volunteer opportunities outside of program hours, and community involvement to promote social inclusion, health, and participation among individuals with disabilities. The role will also oversees volunteer opportunities within ADEC for the community.
Job Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a comprehensive community activities calendar that includes a variety of events tailored to different interests and abilities.

Coordinate sport activities, volunteer opportunities, group fitness activities, etc. ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants.

Organize and manage Self-Advocates of ADEC group with monthly meetings, team projects, and skill building activities that further enhances ADEC’s community engagement initiatives.

Organize and manage ADEC’s Silver Bullet’s basketball league including scheduling seasonal games, coordinating with residential to establish team players, and engaging with the community to coordinate opposing team sign ups.

Oversee and manage ADEC’s volunteer opportunities. Receive all volunteer requests, handle intake and placement of volunteers, coordinate with programming to ensure volunteer needs are being met.

Collaborate with local organizations and volunteers to enhance community engagement and participation.

Foster a sense of belonging and empowerment among individuals with disabilities through community involvement.
Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree preferred in related field, such as special education, therapy, or education.

Must have strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Experience working with individuals with disabilities and a strong understanding of their needs and abilities is preferred but not required.

Passion for creating an inclusive community and promoting self-advocacy as well as an understanding and commitment to ADEC’s mission.

Organizational skills to plan and coordinate multiple activities and events effectively.

Demonstrate strong leadership skills to include team building, initiative, collaboration, and integrity
