SUMMARY: The Marketing and Communications Manager is a key member of Step Up’s Fundraising Team and is accountable for leading the Philanthropy team in meeting the annual goal of raising a minimum of 10% of the agency’s overall budget, estimated at $50M, in the next fiscal year. The Marketing and Communications Manager will raise 1.5M through the growth and management of the Annual Fund, Year-End Campaign, Sponsorship Opportunities, Events, Stewardship, Retention, and Development efforts, including identifying and cultivating mid-level donors and prospects nationwide. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be self-directed, a skilled manager of objectives, and capable of working independently and collaboratively with limited oversight.
DUTIES: The following reflects essential functions for this job but does not restrict other tasks that may be assigned:
· Manages the Marketing and Communications team to meet specific, time-bound objectives.
·Monitors progress of revenue objectives by establishing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-based) goals that are carefully planned, clear, and trackable.
· Provides highly effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship systems for prospective and existing donors to renew and upgrade them to higher giving levels.
·Manages all activities related to Marketing and Communications, including Appeals, Newsletters, Year-End Campaigns, E-Blasts, and Social Media.
·Identifies donors with the capacity to give at the mid-and major gift levels. Cultivates mid-Level donors and informs the Director of Development of new prospects.
·Identifies publicity opportunities and publishes press releases to the media.
·Manages Step Up events, including galas, ground-breakings, grand openings, and breakfast tours at new and existing buildings, to engage current donors and acquire new donors, sponsors, and volunteers.
·Designs, implements, and monitors the availability of supporting materials for new donor acquisition, sponsorships, and Naming Opportunities.
·Works with all areas of Development to support multiple special campaigns, including multi-year strategies for Annual gifts, signature projects and events, legacy giving, and other capital needs.
·Creates content for collateral materials and oversees the design process.
·Manages all aspects of the volunteerism program.
·Partners with the Philanthropy team, Step Up staff, volunteers, and appropriate resources as needed to meet department objectives.
·Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
·Knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising.
·Proficient with Microsoft Office products and database navigation. Previous CRM experience is required.
·Exemplary diplomacy, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
·Must be able to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and meet firm deadlines.
·Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and convey complicated procedures clearly and succinctly.
· Exemplary writing skills.
·Establish working relationships and interact effectively with a wide range of people internally and externally.
· Ability to take initiative and work independently.
· The ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and maintain professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s Degree in related fields preferred.
·Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in nonprofit development with annual fund and staff management experience.
·Minimum five (5) years of experience crafting appeals, newsletters, e-blasts, and managing social media presence.
·Proven record of accomplishment in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donor gifts.
·Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
·Occasional nights, weekends, and some travel are necessary.
·Desire for advancement.
·Current driver’s license and automobile insurance.
·Access to reliable transportation.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Work with people experiencing homelessness, whether on the streets, in shelters, or other places of habitation or services, may present inherent challenges and difficulties such as exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, individuals who may have poor hygiene or unclean homes due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty. Additionally, in working with our members, employees may encounter instances of profanity, sexually explicit or derogatory language, or verbal or physical expressions of anger and trauma. These situations rarely escalate to physical contact and negative or derogatory communication patterns can often be negotiated successfully. All direct care staff are provided adequate training to develop skills to deescalate crisis situations that may arise, and Step Up has established procedural safeguards for all employees to mitigate (but not eliminate) these inherent risks of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry is required.
