Hawthorne Valley's Place Based Learning Center (PBLC) is seeking a Children's Residential Program and Summer Camp Manager to live on site and support the educational activities and daily operations related to the residential programming for the PBLC. This individual will also implement, create and manage all Farm Explorer Camp operations and activities with staff support.
Responsibilities
This manager is responsible for general house awareness and oversight relating to maintenance, cleanliness, and aesthetics, while also ensuring that children and adults participating in Main House residential programming are aware of the house rules and feel safe and content in their surroundings.
The House Manager, alongside other program managers, will participate in creation and implementation of children’s activities from 11 am Tues-Friday and will be the manager with primary responsibility and availability from 4PM into the evening to insure a harmonious flow of programming, and responsiveness to need during the evening hours.
The House Manager, in collaboration with other program managers, will train, mentor, and supervise seasonal interns.
The Residential House manager, alongside all full time staff and interns, is expected to help with animal care, which includes weekends and evenings.
The second major aspect of this position is to act as Farm Explorers Camp Manager during the summer. In many ways a continuation of similar responsibilities from the regular year in the visiting student program, although hours are less predictable, and longer.
This position involves collaborating with other Camp managers to create and implement counselor training, management of counselors, and creation and implementation of exciting summer camp activities for children 12-16.
Qualifications

Knowledge of basic animal care, gardening skills, leading hands-on activities

Experience in summer camp operations

Experience working with children ages 8 to 16 in hands-on, outdoor environment

Skills or interest in farm-based crafts

Strong knowledge of Waldorf education and biodynamic agriculture

First aid/CPR certification; Lifeguard certification helpful

This is a full time, salary exempt position starting at $35,000 annually and includes housing and partial board.
